I've been looking to upgrade my internet service and I signed up for ATT Uverse (I'm already an att dsl customer). After doing some research I found that within two weeks or so ATT is going to be adding bandwidth caps to all of their internet plans. Caps start at only 150gb/month for dsl and 250gm/month for uverse service. Now you might be thinking, no biggie, just switch from att to something else. I thought the same thing. However the only other provider in my area is Charter. Now charter has similar broadband speeds but they too have implemented bandwidth caps starting at 150gb as well. So this will kill my scrapebox, viewet useage not to mention any normal useage like online gaming, video streaming, music streaming. This totally sucks! :(

wow that is lame time to start telling att like it is hated when they did that crap with their cell phone data plans too.

I was looking at my historical useage over the past few months and I'm averaging about 250gb/month according to them. I actually thought it was way more than that but I'll still hit the cap. They charge $10 for every 50gb over the cap.

buy VPS and run your shit over there 24/7 you'll be fine

That's even more expensive than paying the overage fees. Then again if I had a VPS I could run xrumer. :-p

You Americans don't know how good you've got it. That's still extremely cheap for 90% of the rest of the world, just like your gas prices. Here in NZ I pay $50 (about $40US) per extra 50 GB over my 50 GB cap of 12 mbit / sec ADSL.

Man up and get a proper server!

Shift to India . and enjoy IM
NO caps to net
in 25 $ a month you get a 1mb/s UL connection

Yes but there is a big difference between the speed provided by ISP and they still have some catching up to do there.

I think 1 mb/ps UL is enough for IM work.

you can even extend your budget and get 2 or 4 mb/ps

I heard they were going to start doing this in Canada, but is this happening in the States as well?

Yep, starting May 5th I believe. You can check your current useage here to see how much you've been using ..
