Hey guys,

Gonna buy a new iMac 27". I already have enough computers but I like to get one new computer a year to keep me updated. I definitely am going to get the 256GB SSD (or should i go 512?), and I might wanna run a second 1080P monitor on it. What other upgrades would you suggest?

Available:

i5 to i7
Graphics card bump
8GB to 16/32GB RAM (or I could save $90 and install the ram myself)

Shoot me some ideas. I don't really have a set budget, so if something is worth it for speed I'll get the upgrade.

thanks!

Compare it to what you have. No one on here knows what you do on your computer better than you.

If your computer is too slow, then double the ram and cores next time. If it filled up, double the hard drive space...

Good point. Just submitted the order, I ended up just upgrading everything. Got a student discount or something so the price wasn't too bad

I agree compare it to what you got and make sure it is an updgrade if you need it that is.

Some people will say build a pc because it is cheaper and you can get more specs

i have seen it from my pals . working from an imac just feels luxurious and that itself is some motivation

Do note that you CAN'T run SEO software on OSX. You will need parallels or something like that. The 256SSD fast but it's super small. I got a 3TB fusion drive. Runs fast and yet I still get to dl movies.

Yeah, that sucks but as long as you have something like Parallells or a copy of XP/Win 8 installed with your OSX then things should be good.

For example, I use my Macbook literally 95% of the times daily and because I have Windows 8 installed alongside my regular OS, it makes running SEO tools easier.

To be honest I love iMac and Macbooks, have always been a big Mac guy but when it comes to using programs and so on I stick with Windows. I'm going to be getting the new iPhone 6 and iMac, can't wait!

Overpriced shit. Everything is welded to the motherboard so if you have any hardware malfunction it will basically mean new computer...

Anyway, Omega watches are overpriced too but some people like them. To each his own..

yeah overprice sh*t... If I were you I will buy

Intel core i7 5930k (6 cores)
GTX 980
Intel SSD 512 GB
32 GB of ram
Asus sound card

and install hackintosh on it :D deym almost 2x faster than iMac

I already have a macbook and a custom built windows machine..this was just going to be on a new desk in the office. was about $3k and i actually ended up returning it because they are coming out with a retina imac by the end of the year. apple was absolutely fantastic with the return; walked it into my local apple store, and i got a full refund in about 45 seconds. i even forgot to put the power cable back in the box and i still got all the money. apple customer support and fit and finish is what makes it worth the price.
