New gTLD prices - too much?

What are opinions on the new pricing schemes for all the new gTLDs?

I think some of them are way overpriced. And speculations on how fast they'll drop, or which ones will be worth the most... some day?

Here's a quick pricing sample from GD...

.tips $24.99
.technology $24.99
.land $39.99
.guru $39.99
.ventures $69.99
.luxury $799.99

With hundreds coming, I would think they would be cheaper than .coms.

It's certainly going to saturate the keyword market and water it down, maybe that's why they're pricing them so high, to limit the people that aren't serious?

.com always will be the KING of domains

They just try to cash-out some $ selling prime domains (like sex.guru) with this totally useless TDL's now and after 2 years they will beg you to but one of this joke TDL's for 0.99$ and they will give you another as a gift!
Stay away from this trash domains...

I can say for sure that some of those gTLD will be used in very big projects, for example, when a .photography comes out ( if it is not released yet? ) i'm sure someone will buy my.photography domain and use it for a new photo social network, at last that's my idea, so each profile will have own subdomain, like darix.my.photography, it would be really amazing and i'm sure that people would pay for something like that. Then you got a luxury TLD which will be used a lot in car sales and hotels for sure and it's good that price is high, so not everyone will be able to purchase it. I see a lot of opportunities in these new TLDs.

.photography is available and my.photography is (as guessed) taken.

.com is the most valuable TLD.but the world is changing fast,and the trends also.So who know what will be the next big thing!!.These are highly overpriced and they are just a way for registrars to make more money.

I think adaptation will take time, but eventually .com will loose value.

I'm not too sure about these new gTLDs, I think they'll just make a mess of the Internet and things will change in such a way where domains will no longer function the same way due to alternative technologies.

Respectfully. That seems a bit like "can't teach an old dog new tricks." What if people said "Facebook?... MySpace will be always be #1 no matter what." And there were people that truly believed that.

The biggest room in the world, is the room for improvement. I see the gTLDs as a giant room of improvement, with opportunity. Opportunity comes with all changes. History has proven that time and again. There will be a time of adjustment and acceptance.

But are new mom/pop businesses going to keep looking for joespizzashopnewyorknumber1.com when they can get joespizza.newyork or joesnewyork.pizza? These are the folks that will buy the gTLDs. Once they do and a few corporations start rolling it out (already plans for many of them) it will begin to be accepted. Examples: nike.shoes, nike.clothes, hp.printers, outback.menu, free.graphics, cheap.hosting, london.reviews, solar.technology. I can keep going.

If you stood by and watched the .coms get snatched up in the early days, you're about to repeat that. And 10 years from now, you'll be wish you bought up some of the 3 letter domains back in 2013.

There are 2 sides to every argument. I used to say .coms are like land, and they aren't making any more land. That's what made them valuable. I think .coms will decrease significantly in value over the next 3-5 years, and be a footnote on a wikipedia page in 20. Our kids won't believe we ever had just one main TLD. Just like we can't believe our parents didn't have color TV or AC when they were kids. Time will tell.

IMHO this will not take off. That entire TLD business is rather pointless, and more TLDs are being added not because there is a demand, but because the participants want to make another buck or two.

There is no reason you should be forced to use .com, .co.uk, .technology, .whatever... what people really want is a total freedom of choice.

Would be interesting to know the seo value of the different tlds. I mean, ceteris paribus, does cheapshirt.clothing rank better than cheapshirt.com for keyword 'cheap shirt'?

My guess is they only add 'branding' to a site.

WF members going cray on .guru! If you want one better move your ass now haha... To be more serious a TLD as a .com is and will always be the king but those new ones can be inetresting for some project

Its worth to paying this amount for registration if you get any premium domain.
