New Google Update On July 23rd & 24th

Well, let's see how everything settles down after this one...

Google became shitty .. The time to move to another platform is coming soon

Something about that rings a bell somewhere. It all makes sense now.

So, The May core update was about the priority of backlinks. Are you sure?

May update was about maximizing ad revenue during the pandemic.

Big ad spenders to the top.

Small sites or niche-specific sites were destroyed. You can't find shit if it's very specific thing.

Just now I was trying to find something about a certain system. In old Google it'd be first result for sure, now I gotta wade through 200 pages of shit content and ads to find anything slightly related.

That sounds familiar? I think some folks have been warning about it for .... over a decade?

Backlinks are a factor for authority and Google started giving more importance to authority than relevance. This is the reason we rarely find exact phrase match results for less popular keywords. May core update gave more importance to high authority & huge sites covering a lot of things. The sites like Pinterest, Dictionary & Encyclopedia started appearing everywhere as they cover a lot of topics. However, Quora lost a lot of traffic as there is enormous amount of plagiarized content. For the past 2 months, Quora has been collapsing plagiarized content to get their rankings back.

Google has tested this July 23-24 algorithm in early July, but quickly rolled it back. I guess they've made some corrections and released it. The results are still not showing exact match phrases, but it's slightly better than earlier.

Hmm, interesting. I have more or less the same feeling, but explain to me, why KGR still works for new niche sites?

My sites are ranking good on all other Search Engines besides Google for the past 2 days since this update.

Hoping my stuff climbs back up and that they just did a shuffle. Going to wait a week or so to see how it plays out.

I haven't checked KGR myself, but found some threads on BHW complaining that it's no longer working. I'll check if it still works for me.

Oh damn!

On the bright side, all those stubborn backlinks I have been trying to index for a month are now indexed.

It's a waiting game though.

Let's hope for the best!

Thanks a lot for a good explain

Great comment here. This is exactly what I have been seeing and it has been so confusing. About 4 weeks ago I made 2 blog posts for keywords 'product - location' - I was shocked to see that my website was ranking at #10 and #20 for these terms and only 3 people above me had pages that were actually about the phrase. Since this new update one of these blog posts has hit #1 and the other is #12

Interesting how quickly conversation ended on this thread.

I guess most people resigned to whatever the big G decides to do

Nothing seems to of settled for me, that number #1 spot this update gave me dropped to #3.... I did very briefly get my good #4 spot back from before the May update, but now that is back at #6.....
