Google local ad placements are getting a lot more aggressive

Searched for a contractor for a project on my house and was met with:

1.) Serp ads
2.) google verified contractors
3.) first organic map pack after scrolling some.
4.) mix of serps and ads.

I don't use an ad block browser on my phone. Using Google.

What are your guys take on it? I plan on mostly hitting ads now and not really focusing on local SEO. Mostly just copywriting for the site.

Ads are faster way to reach desired audience and now since they are prioritized in the serps so, it won't be wise to ignore them.

Local SEO on the other hand is also essential as it helps to build brand & reputation.

Also local SEO isn't dead so other will still be effective with driving traffic.

I will use both but priortize my spending on ads more than local SEO.

Also as google gets more aggressive, ad blockers will become more popular. Still google ads will rule though.

SERP Ads

Search Engine Results Page (SERP) ads have been a mainstay of Google's monetization strategy. The prominence of these ads, especially for high-value queries like contractors or local services, is part of Google's push to maximize advertising revenue. As an SEO specialist, while focusing on ads may provide immediate visibility, maintaining a balance with organic efforts is crucial for long-term sustainability.

Google Verified Contractors

Google's Local Services ads, featuring Google Verified contractors, offer users vetted professionals and give advertisers prominence at the top of search results. For businesses, getting verified and investing in this program can be a powerful way to stand out. However, this requires adherence to Google's guidelines and potentially passing background checks or meeting specific licensing requirements.

First Organic Map Pack

The organic "Map Pack" or "Local Pack" remains a critical component of local search. Its placement after ads underscores the importance of local SEO. For users wary of ads or seeking more information before making a decision, this section is invaluable. Optimizing for the Local Pack through Google My Business, local keywords, and reviews can significantly impact visibility without the direct cost of advertising.

Mix of SERPs and Ads

The blending of organic results and ads further down is designed to keep users engaged and on Google's platform. For businesses, this reinforces the importance of a diversified strategy that includes both SEO and paid advertising to capture attention across different sections of the search results.

Strategy Considerations

Balanced Approach: Relying solely on ads might yield quick visibility but can become costly. A balanced strategy that includes local SEO ensures you're visible in organic search, which users often trust more than ads.

Content Quality: Continuing to focus on high-quality, SEO-friendly content is vital. Content that addresses user intent and provides value can improve organic rankings and enhance the user experience.

Local SEO: Even with aggressive ad placements, local SEO shouldn't be ignored. Optimizing for the Map Pack by maintaining accurate and comprehensive Google My Business listings, collecting reviews, and local link building remains important.

Ad Strategy: Given the competitiveness of ads, refining your ad strategy to target specific keywords, using location targeting, and optimizing ad spend is crucial. Experiment with different ad formats, including Local Services ads, to find what works best for your target market

In my opinion,it seems like Google is showing more ads and local contractor listings when people search for services like finding a contractor for home projects.Because you've noticed this, you're thinking of focusing more on running ads and writing compelling content for your website instead of worrying too much about local SEO. This could be a good strategy to get noticed by potential customers. Just keep an eye on how things are going and adjust your approach as needed.Hope this helps.

Users often skip ads in favor of organic listings because they perceive them as more authentic. Leverage ads for immediate visibility, but continue to invest in local SEO and quality content.
