This is really annoying. To see volume of keywords you now have to have a full campaign running from what I can see. If you don't you get stats like these and a message like this.

"This page shows ranges for search volumes. For a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign"

weight loss
Avg. monthly searches
100K – 1M

Pretty annoying.

Anyone know a way around this? Are third party tools still working?

Haven't seen this yet but this could be problematic.

Just checked my GKP and yeah this will be a big problem. It is more of guessing the exact monthly searches T_T

Be interesting to see how many third party tools that are just scraping this data also break. Think Long Tail Pro will break, I remember having to give it access to my google account.

This is a bad news for every one of us. Yes, we cannot work with the exact data, but then I think traffic is NOT constant for any keyword. On certain months it's above threshold for certain keyword and on other months its below threshold, so let's take this change with a pinch of salt. We now have to work with only threshold data, and not consider the upper limit. And yes, Long Tail Pro is likely to incorporate certain changes on its data metrics, on the back of this change.

Just checked my account, it works so far normally...
maybe the updates still didn't hit me
This means in the near future
a) you have to loose some money to get the information from them. (which actually is normal for the world - intel is money, big company pay big amount of money to get information ie FB)
b) go to social marketing.

I'd also be interested to know if the third party tools are still working. Do ahrefs, semrush, etc use this data or are they still working well? I need to make a choice about buying one of these tools...

I will suggest you to wait and see how the things are going...

Is there a limit on what you have to spend to get this data, or do you have to have an active campaign running? Could it be as simple as setting up and running a campaign, getting a few clicks and then pausing it?

Never been a big fan of GKP..
Could you please give some alternative tools which you used? I work with GKP for a long time because of its free.

This problem is reported from Juin and in August there is an official thread from google confirmed about this.
In the meantime, I used Ahrefs and the result is still good. (I compared with results from an active Adword account).

I wrote this in another thread on the Black Hat SEO forum:

Hi AdWords Community,

As of this week, previous technical issues affecting the Keyword Planner tool are now resolved. Some important updates to keep in mind:
  • Most advertisers will see search volume data in Keyword Planner as usual.
  • Advertisers with lower monthly spend may see a limited data view in the Keyword Planner. For example, you may see values such as 0, 1-100, 100-1K, 1K-10K, 10K-100K, 100K-1M, 1M+ in the average monthly searches column. In addition, other advertisers may trigger the limited data view by reaching a limit on the number of searches for search volume data.
  • Access to traffic forecast data will remain unchanged.
  • The AdWords API will continue to return full data.
These changes will ensure that AdWords advertisers are able to get the data they need to optimize their accounts.

Is there any KW tool out there that does NOT scrape GKP or use Google's API?

Unfortunately I still have to use Google planner man...

In for answers to.

My account got hit yesterday.

I dont have a paid ahrefs sub either - so thats out to.

Just tripped over this shit. Fuck you Google man, fuck's sake.

Oh well. Change, move on, do something different.

KeySearch is working as normal and LTP Platinum is showing some weird search results. Most search numbers are coming up as either 1,001 or 10,100.

Sounds like LTP has been fingered too then.

I've been using the "Keywords Everywhere" plugin for Firefox along with ubersuggest.
