New Google Algo update, backlinks only count 30%?

Relevant backlinks? Yes, it's definitely a contributing factor but then I will not buy anything that says " Links have to be niche dependent".

100% agreed, I think it's hard to define relevancy anyway. Is a link from a site about pigs, in an rare article about birds, relevant for "pigs"? Is a link from a site about pigs, in an article about birds, relevant for "birds"? What has to be relevant? Whole site? Just the content around the link? Now, thinking further, isn't a site about hiking relevant for "boots"? Is a site about the sky relevant for "rain"? Is a link from a local business directory relevant for "plumber", even if it's the only plumber in the city, but there are 100 lawyers in the directory?

From my observation, power beats relevancy any time and talking about relevancy is kinda pointless since noone really knows how Google defines it.

if links only count 1/3 as much, then create 3 times the links. 1/3 X 3/1 = 1.

That sounds so stupid. Links from the same niche or they don't count. 99% of the web would be screwed!

I don't know that there is a set percentage of backlinks that should be followed. The quality of the backlink may be the most important factor in SEO. So don't worry about percentage. Build high quality backlinks.

If we knew we'd all be rich.

Amen! mate ;] ...So True ;). Its not 2009 anymore if anyone of us are thinking about sustainable business model i mean long term, no one never said that spam to death or bot to death and You get rich these days. Even SEO became serious JOB.

Think about Your customer/user , why does he needs to click or buy or return to your sites...
P.S. SERPS are shaking by the way... ;) rankbrain or fullmoon ... who knows ...

Exactly. I have sites where I've built a strong foundation of citation/brand links and then literally had 3 really nice high authority relevant links pointing to the site, and boom. Ranking everywhere within months (local websites). I also have a client who is in a really big market in the real estate niche. He sponsors the NFL team in this area and gets a homepage link, as well as links on many of their sub pages and sister sites. Other than that, his link profile is average. But, the authority that this set of links pushes is so tremendous that he ranks in the top 3 spots for thousands of terms. He pays almost $100K to be their sponsor, but guess how much that organic traffic makes him?

Another example is one of my personal niches in the automotive space. One day I noticed that one of our competitors started ranking #1-2 for almost every high level keyword in the niche. I had looked at their link profile before and it was complete garbage. Upon further inspection, I found that they had gotten sitewides from three of the biggest sites in the automotive industry. That partnership might cost them an arm and leg, but I know for a fact the guy is netting high 6 figures monthly.

Point is, links are still the main building block of SEO. If I were to put a number to it, I would say it's more like 50% importance, if not a bit more. This is why I'm not scared to spend $X,XXX on a kick ass link. I know in the end it will pay itself back ten fold.

Hahaha...Guru that's as confused as a goat mentors his son. Nobody knows buddy!!

Mate, my 2c is that Google will ALWAYS favor good content (not pure garbage), relevant backlinks (good quality) and good on-page SEO. To remain relevant and the #1 search engine thay have to and they know it. As far as percentages...who knows and not really worth losing sleep over. Google only has so many tools in its arsenal in my opinion so they turn one knob slightly...then another and have us all fretting...Do the basics (above), keep your visitors in mind and watch the results.

Google said Links, Content and Relevancy are the most important factors in SEO and everyone is making a fuss about it. Really, it has been the same since the creation of Search EnginesLinks will always be the most important because its the only thing that can be multiplied. Like you have a good piece of content targetting specific keyword, who doesnt?? The only way you can compare between pages is Backlinks.. So keep working on ur backlinks and u will do great This is might be shocking news for gurus like Moz and other so called content is king .. build content and you will rank or add some social share and pray ! But for us.. it has always been the same

Google is an algorithm, so it is nothing new that there is a percentage assigned to each item that they use to create ranking factors. Until and unless someone worked at Google how can we be sure what is the percentage. Still we are able to rank sites more or less the way we want, so we are somewhere near the ball park figure.
