Hi,

Does someone know what the new Google Algo Update includes, is there somewhere we can read about it?

A so called Gurro told me that backlinks now only count 30% for ranking and that it is almost mandatory to have backlinks from the same niche otherwise they won't be counted any longer.

What do you think, is that true? Do you know more?

it's actually 33.5%.

Joking :)) They had some new announcements where they said what are the top 3 ranking factors, but did not put them in order. I am very sure none of us know the exact % of importance that backlings get. All we can do is test. But if such an update will be, I think many wil decrease their ranks, so we'll notice for sure. Just my 2c.

If there is anything IM has taught me, it's don't listen to a 'guru'. And for the record, what he said is not true at all. No one knows, you can only test things yourself.

It's not 30%, my SEO GURU told me it's higher... My SEO Guru also work in church :D
JK... In SEO there is no such thing as GURU. I can tell you that rankings atm are positive to those who wait results while they are working in background.

Start making links (not 50-100 in month) keep it low 10 max.

Backlinks will have effect as long as Google exist. For me backlinks have more than 80% importance.

Let us all keep adding Backlinks and leave it up to the Almighty.

Maybe its the new update called rankbrain algorithm that Google has dropped.

Thanks for the input guys, from time to time Google put's up some information about what they have done at leats some information, so it could have been the case this time too and I believe there is information out there. In regards to the % of backlinks I don't believe it at all however, I was hoping that something had changed that made backlinks just a little bit less important :)

There are some indicators that this might be a localisation-related update.
We've checked a few results which contribute to Algoroo's volatility index and noticed a very different landscape for a number of queries

I think this post is what I was looking for :) http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/833085-links-still-no1-google-reveals-top-ranking-factors-search-results.html

One thing that I can say from my experience is ... its links + content that actually is written to serve the query purpose.

Links depend.. you have to find your little formula.. content.. there is no experimenting here.. has to be peng.

I can build niche links all day long, no problem.

Without backlinks the search results would be really sh*t, Matt Cutts said links still have many years left in them. so tell your guru to p***of

I love how people throw out these arbitrary numbers. If only it were that black and white. As far as relevancy - you can still have links that have zero context, yet their authority will still help. Google is getting much better at understanding context and neighborhoods, but unrelated links will still push the needle (just ask anyone who uses SAPE effectively..lol).

Also, I've seen some movement in the last week (especially on Monday), but nothing crazy. Seems to be content related. Otherwise, nothing crazy for the last couple months.

The only people that have access to that "magic" % number of how much backlinks count are the engineers working at Google, so unless your guru has any connections there, I say he is full of shit.
