Has anyone seen the new changes FB has implemented that are going to make things more difficult for us marketers.

Probably due to their upcoming IPO next year, they have made a lot of changes to privacy. Im sure everyone has seen all those plugins that allow you to collect emails through FB connect on squeeze pages. well FB doesnt allow that anymore. you cant grab an email to be used for marketing to them.

- also you cant autopost to the wall anymore through Apps, so you have to do it manually now.

check out the policy page for these updates. they arent really targeting people right now for doing it but im sure they will start to crack down.

What are your thoughts? ideas? comments?

Can you link an article about this?
Is the IPO coming in april?

I actually just finished reading that an hour ago. Pretty interesting am actually very anxious, excited, worry about the outcome of this will be, but hey i guess now more than ever you will be able to affect facebook by spamming harder in order to hurt them where it hurts, profits .

you mean using apps to post on fanpage walls right?

you mean the platform policies page right? I've read the page and i cant find the things you refer to

oops i meant supposidly. It was on a webinar i watched a few days ago and he was saying that FB made all these changes. Was wondering if anyone else had noticed it as well.

But youre right i cant find it anywhere in their policy either.

I'd be surprised if they went forward with the no-posting-to-wall change. Think about how many game apps there are that post a user's high scores on their wall.

Facebook can get as strict as they want but that will never stop some of us coders out here from updating our bots to work right with it ;)

The "New" platform use changes are from October, 2011. They have just recently been interpreted in a new light by a few marketers that have ran webinars on them.

You ARE still allowed to email the users of your app. That's what the email permission is for. Facebook even specifically mentions email as the preferred medium to contact users. Your email platform is part of your app and necessary to keep your users informed and in my opinion will not fall under the "3rd party marketing tool set" that the new platform policies mention.

Email is the best communication method for app-to-user communication. You can request the user's email via the email extended permission or by having the user directly provide their email address to you in a field that you provide.

Once the user has shared his or her email address with you, you can store it indefinitely, within CAN-SPAM Act regulations.
