I've created a facebook page, but how would i promote it to get more likes?

Please do not mention social media exchange sites.

Use the search function here. There are tons of methods and ideas on how to promote your pages. If your page is unique then maybe Facebook ads would be a good start

You can go on other related pages and post there with a link to your own page.
Target pages that are relevant to your targeted demographics.

i searched but most of the suggestions are to buy likes...I dont want to buy likes because the accounts that like my page may be unactive/fake accounts

The best thing I could suggest is use youtube. That is the best way. Hope this isn't bad news.
