While I have limited experience in ecommerce with both platforms (i've used both, just rarely for ecommerce) My understanding of public sentiment is wordpress ecommerce sucks and magento is best for ecommerce.

PS. those words aren't mine, wordpress ecommerce sucking, that was the sentiment of the wordpress meetup group in my area. and they were wordpress fans... and they said it sucked...

magento is absolutley amazing. You can even do different levels of login, wholesale pricing, tiered pricing. I have quite a few magento sites going smoothly

I would go with Opencart or Magento. WordPress is nice but Opencart or Magento comes out of the box ready for
eCommerce. You do not need a million of plug ins.

I've played around with Magento and it seems the best way to go.

How big do you anticipate your business or turn over to be?

One set back is Magento does have a tougher learning curve. If you have a smaller business something simpler could be the way to go.

Since Wordpress is being a blogging platform and e-commerce added as an additional functionality.
Magento is an e-commerce platform and blogging added as an external plug-in.
so both have more or less similar functionality.

    Magento is my first preference.

Go for Magento, i love it, wordpress is a CMS not shopping cart, you will find it more difficult to customize for ecommerce.

Mate go with wordpress because magento or other ecommerce platforms have steep prices on their modules where as
    wordpress does not.

On top of agreeing with rabbitking, consider the ease of seo with wp and its plugins....

Evaluate 1st about the number of products. Magento is a real ecommerce platform.

Correct, if you need ecommerce features then go for magento otherwise you will end up installing tons of ecommerce plugins and still not be satisfied. You can also download free plugins for Magento here.

WP/WooCommerce if you already know WordPress and don't want to learn how to use Magento.
