new Ecommerce site need advice

I am starting a new eCommerce site I will be using WordPress as it is what I am familiar with. I have been doing affiliate marketing for a few yrs and now I am starting a site in one of the niches I have had some good success with and will be manufacturing and selling my own products. My questions are these:

1. What is the best wp ecommerce plugin? I will be listing over 1000 products so speed of listing a products is a concern.

2. What other plugins would you recommend?

Well, WP E-Commerce plugin is the best and free out there. There are a lot of others plugin/theme as well, but most of them are premium. I won't consider using premium plugin/theme before my site is well established.
