new domain? effect on seo

So i have one website with .com domain and this website already got some traffic but i want to change domain name (maybe without .com) because it's to long. Here is my question if i redirect my .com domain to new one is this help with seo? Is it good option? What do you think is the best option right now?

All traffic from .com will go to your new domain, but your new domain will take some time to be indexed on Google and see results coming. But if your answer is "The traffic will come"? Yes, when someone use your old domain, they will be redirected to your other domain.

If you are saying about organic search, well yes. But you will see less traffic coming. It's normal. Like I said new domains take time, like you old domain was take time to increase PA/DA and get traffic

Use 301 Permanent Redirect and Check if you don't have any 404 Error, fix them and you will be fine.

If your existing .com already has some authority or metrics, and when you 301 that .com to your new domain, the link juice and metrics will then be passed onto the new domain respectively.
Otherwise, if your existing .com does not have any metrics, no link juice or is brand new, then you can save the hassle of doing a 301, and just begin using the new registered domain accordingly - but still, no harm done when you 301, just that you will need to pay for the annual renewal for 2 domains instead of 1.
