New Blackhat Technique ??

This could be a old technique i have noticed or just a reworked technique.

Anyway the Story.

I was on Google Trends looking for a hot keyword, when i noticed the keyword: "stephenville ufo" (Some UFO Sighting in Texas) rising up the ranks.

So i did a search for it on google and found a result for a story about it on Digg.com.

So i notice in the comments on the story on Digg that people posting links to the video for this "UFO sighting". When an non-saavy user clicks on this link they are taking to what looks like a Video site, instantly they are promted to install a codec for the video.

No i assume that this "Codec" installer is laced with adware,spyware,malware or what ever and the owners of these sites are making a nice income off PPI.

So i guess to sum up this technique.
People are posting comments on real NEW News Articles published on Digg with links to a fake video site that has a fake video thats supposed to be about the News Story.

When the page with this fake video loads up the user is automatically promoted to install a Video Codec to watch the video. The unsuspecting user installs the "Video Codec" with is bundled with some PPI program.

Like i said i dont know if this is a new technique or just a twist on an old one.

Easy way to get lots of adware installed on unsuspecting surfers!

I noticed 'stephenville ufo' in hot trends today also. But thats not really a new blackhat technique you found there.

Basically Pay Per Install means that you get people to install a publishers Application / content and you receive some money for each download you can generate ranging anywhere from $0.05 to $1.35 What Compaines offer this Pay Per Install?

Some of these Companies offer content for you to make things easier but we are going to create our own content and promote it via our own means. Step 1 is to sign up with one of these companies.

You dont need to hire a programmer for $1000's. You will simply need copyright free Images. A Hot Niche is Celebs. So basically we go to a news site such as Google News, ABC News, CNN, Fox... Check out the Top Headlines and Top stories in the Gossip / Celeb Section. Select a Celeb your going to use. For this example im going to use Britney Spears since shes always in the news for some stupid reason or another. http://flickr.com/search/?q=Britney+Spears&m=tags
So you've collected around 15-20 Images of her. Now You need something to bundle the publishers application with. Some people use things like ebooks, movies, or games. We're going to use a simple Slideshow. Get all your Images opened up Windows Movie maker and make a Slideshow of all those images. Then go download Her latest song. (If you want to do it legit it can probably be purchased for $.99 from iTunes). So Now you've got your Britney Spears slide show and Her Song behind it. Save 1 pure form and Save another one bundled wtih the publishers content.

The very first thing you want to do is upload your slideshow + song + bundled Content onto a free hosting and save the link. Second thing you want to do is download NVU from www.nvu.com Open up Nvu and create a quick landing page saying download (Artist Name) (Artist Song) Slideshow then the Lyrics beneath and download link. Go to Godaddy and purchase a couple of domains like BritneySpearsToxic.com or BritneySpearsToxicLyrics.com then upload the page onto your hosting. Hey Why cant you just promote the direct link you ask? Because your going to add your autoresponder saying "sign up to receive more slideshows" so you can build a fan base that you can promote your future videos plus you can add other things like tell a friend script. Now You've got your site set up domains set to go for the promotion.

Promotion A:
Upload your Video onto youtube/others and Say you can download this video from (link).com (the site you created). These videos get millions of views.

Promotion B:
Simple go to celeb gossip targeted forums tell them about your video and then get them to view it or go to britney spears fan forums and tell them about your video and get them to view it. Takes a good half hour but people pass links from forums to forums which will help your site growth.

Promotion C:
Upload your file onto limewire. Download limewire, look in C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\shared then put yourfile into that folder. Or you can upload to torrents.

I know theres nothing new about Pay Per Install. I just never seen blackhatters delivering it in this particular fashion.

1. Grab a very recent big news headline. example: "stephenville ufo"

2. Create a landing page that looks like your viewing a video from a video sharing website, something like the view video pages on youtube, break, metacafe etc.

3. Add the News Headline title to the fake video page, example: "Footage of Stephenville UFO"

4. Add what looks like a Video Player to the page, but its just an image of a Video Player with an error message saying "You must install Video Codec" or something blah blah

5. Buy a Domain that looks like its some video website, example: w*w.mybigvideosite.inf*

6. Upload your landing page to it, example w*w.mybigvideosite.inf*/stephenville-ufo

7. Go to Digg and similar sites and find stories about the recent big News Headline you found. If there is a recent big News Headline its guaranteed to be on Digg very quickly and read by a lot of people.

8. Comment Spam on these storys claiming you have a link to some video relating to the News Headline.

Look at the comment for the story, if you click on the URL you will be taken to what looks like a video website containing a video about the News Headline, but you are prompted to install a "Video Codec" to watch it.

Thanks, but I'm not going to do to others what I don't like to be done to myself. However being a BH or a WH, but I want to get friends, not people who will hate me. Furthermore I could easily get banned from my host if I'd use any trick to install any software on visitors boxes without their consent.

I can't see any comment either. Anyway all this thread is awesome, many good ideas revealed..

Yeah appears as though the comments with these links eventually get deleted from the storys on Digg.

But if you think about it, if someone posts a story on Digg about a recent News Event then that story is guaranteed to get some serious traffic.

If you post a comment claiming to have a video about that News Story people are going to be all over it like flies to shit. So even though the comment will probably get deleted you are going to get some short term high traffic.

And hopefully some PPI installs.
