New accounts don't appear in searches ?

I made an account on twitter about a week ago and for like the first few days none of my tweets appeared in the twitter search and now they are starting to appear in twitter search without any RT. I thought that a tweet needed a RT or to be favourited to be included in search results but its really the age of the account that matters?
