New 2014 gTLDs - Get or Not ?

So it's been awhile new target specific gTLDs are out that are like .guru and .dating

Will you buy it? Do you think it will have the same value as com net org in the future? Or even now?

I'm guessing it's going to get messy in the search because some of them are long. It's also going to be hard to type in like "example.construction" even though it's brandable.

I also don't believe in these new tld's, for now i'm going to keep working with .com domains.

Doubt anything will ever win over the old and well-known extensions. But I might give some a go, just for the fun of it.

.com will always be king but specialization attracts ..we should never forget that...

It's going to be verry hard for people to trust the new TLD's... so for this matter it's .com .net .org all the way!

I have doubts about their future but I am also very curious to take one and see how it performs in Google.

it is very tempting to buy the newer domains. and i'm seeing over at flippa some are getting bids already. the notable ones being pet.land

2 things can happen:
1) the .com premium will go up (due to too many extension making it shitty), or
2) it will go down. (due to more extension, less crowding)

And of course there's the problem of how G treats it. Very hard to guess.

We're buying only .com domains for a few reasons, like:

1. We don't want our site to be mixed with .com domain ie
2. Most of the people are only looking .com domains by default
3. If you want to sell your domain, .com will always worth more
4. CTRL + Enter takes most users to the .com domain for the given name

I think the registrars are really hyping up the "internet land-rush 2014" aspects of this new batch of offerings. The prices of some of these new tld's are insane. Plus you have a renewal fee equal to the purchase price. So you may end up with a bad name for a lot of money.

I bought Pet.Land and I think it will be worth quite a bit in the future. It has a nice ring to it and the pet industry is already huge and will continue to grow faster than the overall economy.

I don't forsee a lot of interest in them outside the IM and domainer communities. However, I'm not sure that domains mean as much today as they did 5 or 10 years ago, provided the initial traffic source is a trusted source (e.g., flogs and farticles). It would be interesting to see the results of an A/B test on new domains vs. old ones as far as whether performance is affected (and for that matter, a news or niche domain vs. a random one).
