Never Underestimate Image Backlinks

Posting an image from your website on any nofollow/do-follow forums really really make a big difference. This strategy works really well, even in competitive niches. Plus you will not get moderated for doing this. Aaaaand another advantage from doing so, is that even nofollow tag is used on the forum. The link will be followed.

When I asked people about image backlinks they all said worthless

How come you won't get moderated?
On a real active forums they will ban/delete as soon as they see something fishy.

When you add an image you will prompt to insert it from URL. Copy your image address from any post you are wishing to link to. If any inspected the element, he/she will clearly see that the image coming from another URL.
Those images shows in MOZ OSE and followed

I am in the same boat that @nodyguy are you saying that if you insert an image from your own website (example http://www.mydomain.com/image.jpg) into a forum the link won't be no follow? how so?, that the link it is shown in the SEO tools does not mean it has an effect on your Google ranks, ahrefs shows all your backlinks and then it makes a distinction betwenn the ones that are nofollow and the rest, because it is clear that the nofollow have no SEO value.

Google has said that it doesn't pass on link juice from images. Juice would be passed from the forum to the image (so perhaps the image would rank better in image search), but no juice would be passed from your image to any other page on your website.

The same is true for PDFs as well. Except for PDFs, you can create a canonical link in the header of the PDF that redirects to a webpage.

You can't do this with images - Google has confirmed this.

You can't embed html in an image, and therefore there is no href to follow.

Image links, where the object between the anchor tag is an image is a different matter. But I presume you're suggesting just embedding images on a forum that are hosted elsewhere.

But this is valid link type following the same standards for normal links that can be crawled without any issues.
They are called Frame links within SEMrush and they considered as very normal backlinks in Moz. Also, Majestic Counts those
