I heard that you should not ping your backlinks as google will change index your site again using that backlinks,is that true?

No

However, if you put up a new site, blast comments out to thousands and thousands of blogs and ping them all it might not be a good idea, better to let the search engines find them naturally.

Well lets take this site... its a aged domain, 1999 and has been indexed, was up top in google for years, but no backlinks.

Would it be wise to ping or do small pings over time?

Whats your take?

Lol I don't think it would matter, As far as I know a ping is just alerting Google to come back to the site because there's something going on. Google probably visits the old site anyway on an infrequent basis. I would imagine the pings would just act as if you had some cheap links coming into the site all of a sudden. Google would see them, visit your page and reassess where your at. I doubt small pings over time would do anything for rank though. They wouldn't have a bad effect that's for sure.

I agree that pinging is a waste of time...

I use http://www.pingrss.com and have not found any negative effects to backlinks or linked to site.
