netSpend & Direct Deposit

Any updates here? I almost got screwed by netspend... removed added bank account from paypal, waiting for the card to activate.

Hope PayPal won't close my unverified account.

Please elaborate... Mine's still on file...

I've got a verified Paypal account i used with my netspend card, and i didn't have to use ssn

Yeah I just signed up with Netspend and was able to link my bank account with them to Paypal, but for some reason they "can't verify" my Netspend Credit Card (which is fully activated and everything).

So you should be fine for being able to use Netspend's Metabank account, but unless anyone knows why THAT'S working and the CC isn't...

Help, us, please?

Netspend bank accounts work fine, and you can use it just like a checking account. The problem is with the card... because of the type of card it is, Netspend will not allow you to authorize payments with it (where they place money on hold to cover the cost of something). This is common with a lot of card slider and online vendors. They'll authorize it FIRST and not take the money out right away. So won't be able to pay with the card on your paypal account- you'll have to use the e-check feature on paypal instead. That's okay though...it just takes a couple more days to process. No big deal. Usually if you're going for an instant download or something with the e-check the vendor that you're trying to pay will get paid right away and you'll still have access to the download instantly. They don't need your social because it's a pay-as-you-go service, and you're charged a monthly fee for using it....

Wonder how they're getting away with that. According to US law, any kind of cash-flow card or service has to have your ssn on file. Even PayPal. Something to do with preventing tax fraud & the fact that you might be "funding terrorism".

Maybe they're just not verifying them.

I am wondering this also, but glad it isnt asking for SSN so far. I will try them out.

If you go to i b a n k u p.com, they are pretty lax. You can give a moot social security. Paypal lets you verify. You can use it just like a bank account. You just can't accept wire transfers and you can only hold up to 10k. You can add funds several different ways as well.

-MoneyPak Cards
-Someone can pay you using ebillme
-Direct Deposit
-Or you can send a link.

So I ordered a NetSpend card that I can use as an atm/debit card so i can transfer money received it and it wants my SSN but I am not old enough, is there a way I can get around this?

I wouldnt recommend anyone opening an account with Netspend. They closed my account without contacting me and when I called them they couldnt give me any valid reason for that. (I just used that account for receiving amazon.com revenue payments). Stay away from Netspend.

Don't you think it's a little scary that someone can open up a bank account under your name without your social though? It just seems, sketchy.
well no. once your card comes in the mail, you have to email netspend a picture of your social security card, a picture id and maybe a birth certificate before your card can be set up.

That post was from five and a half years ago, bro.
