An EMD I'm trying to scoop up has the .net and the .org options open.
Is there any difference between the .net and the .org versions?
Is either better then the other?

Bonus Question: I've been told a brand new site has no authority and therefore cannot each the top of the serps, even if the SEO (both on-site and off) is better then its competitors. Would a site with an aged domain (5 months) but brand new content face this problem?

They're both TDL, so no - there's no difference, it's a matter of taste only.

I've beat several 5+ year old websites with monthly old websites. Google will take the domain-age into consideration since it likes websites that are here to stay (so-to-speak).

Preferably, unless it's something health, fitness, or environment/cause related, I use .Net or .Com.

There is no difference as such. But when it comes to people how perceive it , there is. I personally prefer the .org

If you want to pass on some authority what you can do is buy an aged domain on godaddy auctions, preferably with your keyword in the domain or something related to your website and then do a 301 redirect. This will pass on some juice. You can also use this as a shield to build backlinks which you think might be a little too risky.

I prefer org more than com ;) But its just me. No difference as such.

I think there will be no different at all... Difference depends on the site construction and maintenance.

I dont see any differences, although I prefer .org personally.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've managed to pickup the .net version.
Will work on acquiring the .com since the owner doesnt use it ..

Well the best example is wikipedia.ORG

Is there an advantage in ORG domains?

Well I'm not sure, but i see COM,NET,ORG are the most ranked tlds all over the search engines in terms of SEO.

Wikipedia.ORG is not monetized to this day! It asks for periodic donations / subscriptions. So if the purpose is to cash in, Wikipedia may not be the best example.

charity, orgs, business branding etc = .org better
sales, reviews etc... = .net better
just my 2 cents

.net domains are originally for network infrastructures, now unrestricted whereas .org domains are originally for organizations not clearly falling within the other gTLDs, now unrestricted.

Well i saw some .org monetized websites with adsense or products.

Mostly in the health niche.

If the website provide information then i guess the org is the best choice.

I try to avoid .net domains. I have seen studies which claim that .nets or more likely to be a scam. You never know what a potential customer may believe.

It boils down to psychology. One question you may ask is: are people more inclined to link to a ORG rather than a .NET? I'd say so.... But that's just my subjective opinion.

Isn't a .com with an EMD easier to rank than a .net or .org with that same EMD? Is that a myth?
Do you think that it isn't very hard to get to the top of SERPs with an EMD.org, when there's at the top an EMD.com?
What about the .info being crap? Is that also a myth?

there is no difference as such, it just about people perception, few prefer net and few org. It all comes down to site maintenance and construction.

There is no different when it comes to ranking.
It's a matter of taste and perception
