.net overpowering .com !?!

Hi guys,
we have a registered domain name which is a .net
the .com is a company operated by a bunch of old timers and their website is about 10 years old. pure html and no particular updates or sitemap.


with this said how can I make my .net show up on top and my interior pages to also show as a part of the sarech as you see when company names are searched for. for example if you search for "soap seo " the site show up as well a few of the sub pages.


could you please tell me if it is safe to move forward with the .net and get the same results and HOW or this only happens to .com

They are all treated about equal now-a-days. I have a .info site that has gotten relatively nice traffic too. I guess we shouldn't discriminate on the nearly free domains, should we?

I am not just saying first page view. I am talking particularly the domain showing up with a few of the inner pages under it. As when you search for a trademarked name or a company name.

Your domain extension .net or .com should not matter. It seems what you are trying to do is get Google to recognize your expanded site links. Check out http://www.seomoz.org/blog/secrets-of-the-7-result-serp for more info on that.

like others said, domain extension doesn't really matter, i have a few .org that rank above .com , for pretty competitive keywords

No, absolutely not.... google has no way of knowing your companies legal standings.

That SEO Moz article just qouted has some good info, but to be honest skimming through it, the guys seems to have missed the main point. Multiple listings like you are after are only given to big sites with lots of categories, and its the categories that are listed. So you need lots and lots of content, great site navigation, optmized site map, etc.... even then don't expect to get it any time soon. At least not untill your sits has loads of pages in the index, and a solid authority status.

please be aware that even if the site you are trying to overtake is not well optmized, it's 10 years old...... and that counts.
