Negative SEO

Hello BHW

Recently I noticed that my site has been receiving tons of bad links and now i'm desperate about removing those before my site get penalized. It's really sad that some people has to ruin my hard work just because they can't do the same.


I've searched around about this topic and what I found was that some link removing service might be a help, but some also said that its not worth it.
So what do you guys think? Is there anything I can do to prevent this negative seo?

how about removing links via dissavow tool ?

Try removing the negative links if you want to. Another option is to blast positive quality links so it basically overuns the bad links.
If you want to "prevent" negative seo done by other people, mind control seems to be an option.

Welcome to Google's new negative SEO shit-pit. The stupidity coming out of the Plex never ceases to amaze me.

Just use the disavow tool to disavow links from shitty domains, it's possible to disavow whole domains. With most neg SEO'rs being quite lazy and only using a few domains for a lot of their links it's a much quicker way forward.

I would continue to build good quality links from other sites to dilute some of the worst offending links. What anchor text are they using, porn or viagra or stuff targetting your keyword?

How would you overcome persistent negative seo campaigns that go on and on? Lets say I had a site being blasted every day with shit links for a month straight. Would it be best for me to migrate to a new domain or keep disavowing? So much time and work wasted in either case I feel.

You never know, it could backfire and allow you to rank for other keywords or long-tail ones. This has happened numerous times for authority sites. My question is, how will your site hold up (age/size of backlink profile/quality of links etc)?

With spammy links is the problem more the domain of the backlink that makes it spammy or the link keyword? I always thought you could simply use the same Negative SEO backlink keywords yourself and overpower them.

What type of anchors are they using ?

If your website has plenty of bad links and you want to remove them then disavow tool is the best choice. There is another method of removing bad backlinks is also available which is all about time consuming by just emailing the admin of the website to remove your link. This is really bad techniques and 90% admin don't care about you emails.

For those of you who got the same problem as me I would recommend you to first submit all the spammy links to google disavow tool by adding the whole domain, then pay for a link removing service and keep building strong links to your site.

Really the only thing you can do is to calm down and each day export list of backlinks from ahrefs, remove your BL from the list and import the rest to disavow tool, and you SHOULD be fine

This. Eventually whoever is responsible for this is going to stop if they see no results. You just have to weather the storm.

Really these guys talking about disavowing links and not removing them havent been through it.

I have been through this with many of my sites, one was taken out for unnatural link warnings. The advice I received then was hold tight and it would recover automatically. Well that was bad advice (from many of the same people saying use disavow!) and I wasted a year sitting tight waiting on google to fix the problem. Since after all everyone was telling me the unnatural link penalty would just go away if I waited. Well bull fucking shit.

So then I decide to use a link removal service and fix the problem once and for all. Three months later problem solved and penalty was removed. If it wasnt for the link removal service that site would not have recovered. It now is back in the top spots with Google since the penalty was removed.

Moving onto my other site. I had a site that was taken down by an algorithm update. Again I was told to use the disavow and I wouldnt need to spend money on link removal. I tried using link detox reports to disavow my links and spent a few hundred with them on reports to do so. Several months go by again without anything happening. No signs from Google they approved or in this case didnt approve the disavow. More bullshit advice that made me screw around for months with no results.

Finally I went back the link removal service, which is what I should have just done from the start as thats what my gut was telling me and after two months my site had recovered from that algorithm penalty.

The truth is that disavow works if you show google you have tried to remove links. Matt Cutts even says that they approve disavows if you try to remove links. And just throwing shit in disavow wont do anything. I mean think about it. Do you think Gogole would allow a backdoor for link pruning by disavow? Then it'd be a spam fuck fest until you get penalized in which case you slwoly disavow links until your rank again? Ya fucking right.

Thats my experience and advice, its helped my friends get penalties removed and it would do the same for you. Dont get suckered into submitting disavows and waiting. This advice is coming from people that havent had penalties and havent recovered their penalties either.

Exactly.

Going through a penalty at the moment... I can tell you that penalties are not only easy to get, but a nightmare to resolve.

Simply adding a bunch of domains and URLs in the disavow tool do nothing.

Google will reject your disavow file unless you very clearly document and show evidence that you have taken steps to contact the webmaster and try to remove the link yourself.

Which is obviously impossible. Mix this with the zero information Google give you regarding the penalty. Once you have a penalty you're on your own.

Now on our third reconsideration request and 2 months later, we have resulted to disavowing our entire backlink profile in an effort to get out of the penalty.

Negative SEO is very real and it is in no way quick nor easy to salvage your site.

I really feel for the average webmaster and strongly believe negative SEO will run rampant and become a real issue for 2014.

If you get hit with a negative SEO campaign, you're only hope is to:
- Have a Google Webmaster account
- Check your Webmasters account regularly
- Keep an eye on your backlink profile
- Be quick to submit a spam report
- Have the time to spend countless hours shifting through thousands of links
- Have the time to send out mass emails to websites webmasters asking for link removal
- Have the time to document these emails
- Have the time to build huge disavow files

Besides serious IMers and professional SEOers.... what webmaster has all of that?

Not to mention if you get hit with a penalty you'll be negatively effected for a minimum of 1-2 months while Google takes the time to reply and slowly restore your rankings. Rankings do not come back instantly after a penalty, it's a gradual process.

2014 will be interesting.
