Negative SEO on sites like Blogger.com

I have a client that wants his name and his company name removed in the SERPs from a generic.blogspot site. Somebody is spreading slander on their blog using his name and company, and blogspot refuses to take the blog down. The only chance to get this removed is to get the site penalized somehow in the SERPs. Is this possible?

How much harder is it to get things removed from sites like this than normal sites?

Any suggestions as to how to do this?

Go to that blog and flag it. Blogger is good at taking down blogs.
 
I would say you're in for a tough job, because trusted hosts like that can generally take a real hammering in a way that regular private domains can't. That's one of the reasons that nasty parasite spammers like me love them so much.

You might want to consider building some stuff of your own on free hosts (that mentions your client in a positive light) and then bringing that up with some judicious link building, rather than trying to bring down the negative stuff that's already up there.

totally agree. Focus your time and energy into building positive online reputation instead of wasting it covering the negative stuff
 
We have a client like that right now and created content on other sites (Blogspot, Twitter, etc.) and optimized each for his name and brand. It is a slow process but we already brought our content to the top 4 spots, it is just a matter of ranking a few more to bump the bad stuff back to page 2 or further.

As far as negative SEO goes though no comment...to me negative SEO is more of a temporary fix if you can get it to work at all unless the competitor site doesn't receive any natural links.
 
Interestingly enough you can't flag a blog based on slander.

"We do not remove allegedly defamatory content from google or any other Google U.S. domains."
 
I would agree with the previous posters. No way you should even try neg SEO against Blogger (they are owned by Google so no chance to overwhelm it with bad links). Your best bet is to create new sites (Web 2.0, microsites, etc.) and get them ranked so the Blogger materials gets pushed down the SERPs. Of course if the site really is slanderous the client can take legal action. I assume Blogger would need to take it down if a court order is involved.
 
You won't have much luck using negative SEO on blogger, your best bet is to flag the blog and have your friends flag it so that the blog is reviewed or takendown.
