Well as the title states this is about negative backlinks, is there such a thing?
The reason I ask is I have a new website that has had some backlinking work done on it, it has around 2500 backlinks showing up in Yahoo site explorer.

When I check the backlinks in Google Webmaster tools I can see that some of the links G shows are from a sex site, these were done by a blog commenting blast that I paid for on BHW. There are 6 links from this one sex site. Strange thing is that the page that these link to seems to have dropped dramaticaly in Google SERPS for te keyword that is used in the backlinks.

Do you think this is nothing more than a coincidence or is it possible that the links from a porn site has done some damage?

I always thought that bad backlinks couldnt do any harm, after all if they could I would just backlink my competitors sites from porn sites.

There aren't any bad links, it's only said that links on malware infected are bad.
However, links on spammy sites doesn't give you any value in terms of "trust" ranking.

If you build to many links to a new site, it often drops in rankings. So yes, if you xRumer a new competition, the chances are high that he will loose rankings at FIRST.

BUT, he will come back, and AT LEAST like he was before, if not even better.

    So I wouldn't risk it!
    Better build links for yourself!

Good tactic for pretty value links is guest articles! High PR blog commenting! Stuff like that.

Furthermore, use spammy links from ScrapeBox only as tiers in a link pyramid, for the links you already have, pointing to your site.

    Any more questions :D
