One of my good friends is looking at a big amount of loan and he'll have the opportunity to invest $300,000 in anything. He has to repay this loan in 8 years and for those 8 years it will remain interest free. He is from a south Asian country.

Now, he has asked me for some suggestions on where to invest the money. He is currently related to an IT business. I'd like to know if you guys have any suggestions for him. I know for a fact that some very good business minds are in this forum. I'd very much appreciate it.

You are really asking that kind of investment advice on an IM forum. Yeah there are some good business people here but that is also a lot of money.

For me though it would be mutual funds. There are some out there with a very good track record out there. That is what I would do with it. He has to be careful playing with OPM. What happens when 8 years rolls around and he has lost it?

Let me rephrase the question a bit. If you had the chance to invest some of that money in an IT product, what would have invested it in?

IMO your friend is a dummy.

I would first research what to invest in for 1-2 years and then take out a big loan. Not the other way around.

I would suggest he focuses or goes into something he knows about (i.e IT).

All the best. Sorry for the harshness.

Well, he has not taken the loan yet. He has got an opportunity to take the loan. The paths have opened for him. I probably couldn't explain it better.

Maybe invest in real estate.

Either way.... I think he should not rush into something big.

Also if investing only... $50-100K is more then enough IMO for a good ROI that can pay off the loan + interest.

All the best to you and your friend.

Am i the only one who thinks its either a complete lie or very dodgy that you would be given a loan of that size without having a plan in place from the start?

You are not the only one, no. It is an initiative from that country's government to help the less established IT firms.

seems to me like the point of the loan is for him to invest it in his IT business. wouldn't that be a requirement for the loan?

a solid investment is to build a building from scratch, like a small residential apartment building, then sell it.
i know people who have done it, when the building was built it cost 350k but was worth 450k.
in 8 years he could do it 2-3 times, and maybe make enough to get a building for himself to keep. cash flow baby ;)

the only requirement for this to work is for the housing market to not crash between construction and selling.

Thanks for idea. You are right, it is mainly for the IT business. However, since it's a lot of money, he figured he could invest some of it in something else and make enough profit for in 8 years.

Any ideas for IT related products are welcome. Like if you had the money, what kind of products would you develop?

if he is into real estate then i have a great opportunity for him. There is a US company that buys, renovates and rents property in a specific area in california, so far they have about 14 properties - all rented. They are looking to expand so an extra 100 -300k would be well received.
He wont make major quick money but he will get a 19% equity share in an expanding company that is asset rich, has no debt and is giving a steady return on investment.
pm me for more info.
