    I dont know why but the content on my main page in my wp site
    is always showing the full article and not just the summary.
    I did changed the settings in the reading section in wp to show only
    the summary of the content but its still showing the full article and the
    problem is that when its showing the full article on the main page its not
    showing the adsense ads that are within the article, only when you click
    trough the article you see the adsense ads, so by letting the viewer read the
    entire article on the main page, i am loosing money because there is no ads
    in front of him.
    How can i fix that and make it show only a small summary instead of the full
    article??

    I use a plugin which includes a picture with the summary... thumbnail-for-excerpts
    is it's name.

    Hope this helps.

    Did you use the "more" tag? Go to the html version of your post and put in the <-more-> tag and see if that works.

    That will usually be configured by your theme.

    Go to your wp dashboard. Choose the appearance tab. Click on your theme options.

    Look for a section like "Post & Pages", look for a something like "Configure EXCERPTS", look for something like "Posts or excerts on HOME page?" choose "Only Excerpts", Look for something like "Show the first X posts on Home page as full posts?" choose "0".
    You can also look for something like "Don't strip these tags" and add the html tags that show your ads.

    Like I said these settings will be theme specific, but you should be able to find similar settings in most themes, if the theme is any good.

    Usually in the Appearance tab there will be a "(Your Theme Name) Options" selection listed as one of the last selections. If the theme author didn't include any options, then I'd have to actually log into your dashboard to hunt for it. That's a little more work than I want to do right now. :)

    You might try googling: (Your Theme Name) configure excerpts.
    or variations of that. Hopefully someone else using the same theme has wanted to do the same thing.

    edit - It might help if you tell us what theme you're using.

    Don't know what else to tell you... did you try using the plugin? Not only will it give you pictures with each post, it'll also do what you're talking about. If you don't want (don't have) pictures, then i don't know what to say.

    sheez.. this is pretty simple.. on your post page on the wp-admin.. just right below the POST you have made.. there's a little box just like the one... where you make your POST.. that's the EXCERPT box.. all you have to do is.. copy the parts you wanted to preview on your wordpress and thats it.. by default, if WP doesnt' see the excerpt, the whole post is going to be shown..

    Home Page:
    If you do not write a custom excerpt, then WordPress automatically takes the first 55 words from your post and put them in an excerpt with elipses and display it. You can change the word limit starting from WordPress 2.9. If you want to change the word limit open your functions.php file and add the following function:

    // Changing excerpt length
    function new_excerpt_length($length) {
    return 100;
    }
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'new_excerpt_length');

    // Changing excerpt more
    function new_excerpt_more($more) {
    return '%u2026';
    }
    add_filter('excerpt_more', 'new_excerpt_more');

    hope this helps you out:0)

    everyday and i will never keep up with the posts this way.
    I need a solution that will apply this to all the posts in my blog

    @kikiriki - did you check the plugin chockomonkey posted for you? I had to take off this morning. It sounds like that might do what you want.

    To GeryWolf:
    I did checked the plugin description and i cant
    use it cause i dont have pics for it.

    To Jeffers1957:
    I can put the code on my theme but how to i change the word count?
    I mean where to i insert the 30 number so it will display only the first 30
    words of my article?
    Thank you.
