Ok Im pretty inexperienced and need some wordpress advice. I want to create a site similar to thisiswhyimbroke, uncrate, werd, dudeiwantthat etc.

Ill just explain the features Id like and hopefully someone here can help.

Users sign up as members and are able to save items in their "stash."
When they sign up it gives them their own page on the site like xxxdotcom/username
I would also like this page to be able to be shared on social media

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Wordpress can be overwhelming if you do not have much experience in it. I have been working and designing websites with wordpress for over 8 years and I still learn new things every time I design a website.

I would suggest purchasing a theme and possibly integrating woocommerce to showcase your items. If you need help or would like me to design the website for you feel free to skype me, I can show you some of my previous work & sample websites :)

You can get a Woocommerce template and let someone customize it for you. Or look around on ThemeForest and look for a similar theme. This should be your cheapest option. Another option would be to google these websites, and see if a programmer has created a clone of them for clients on sites like oDesk, Freelancer. Then you contact them. Goodluck!

Yeah Woocommerce is honestly your best option if you don't know what you're doing. Or maybe even shopify if you really want to do it easily.

Wordpress is not very easy CMS, If you want to build a good website without any issues then you must have to contact with expert developers they can help you to choose a good woocommerce theme and all other things as well.

I don't mean to discourage you, but something like this (what you need) can be quite hard for a beginner.

You just need a membership plugin and configure it to suit your needs.

For example something like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/members/

Short plugin description:

  • Role Manager: Allows you to edit, create, and delete roles as well as capabilities for these roles.
  • Content Permissions: Gives you control over which users (by role) have access to post content.
  • Shortcodes: Shortcodes to control who has access to content.
  • Widgets: A login form widget and users widget to show in your theme's sidebars.
  • Private Site: You can make your site and its feed completely private if you want.
