Are your niches low in SEO competition? If you do an "in quotes" or phrase search of each of the main keywords, and the results come to over 200,000, it's going to be hard or impossible to sustain good rankings. It could be as simple as that.
As I often explain to would-be SEO clients, "What a MNS needs that is not ranking is most often additional content that includes other (related) low SEO-competitive, but in-demand keywords, and links to the same. The interaction of the additional kws help rank the root url and kw."
