Nothing personal to d3sign3r, but for landing pages design isn't such an important matter.
As you have seen most of the landing pages are crap, but they convert.
In my opinion copy is the most important thing.
Now I not saying that you don't need a good design, but what I am trying to explain is that copy is the one that influences the most conversion.
I have 5 landing pages for 1 year and I made countless split tests and what my results show is that design influences far less than a copy.
The most that a design improved was 0.3% while a copy made a 1.2% improvement.
Instead of 2 sales per 100 visitors you make 3 with a 1% improvement to the conversion starting from 2%
Let's say you have 1000 visitors per day and a 50$ product.
With a conversion of 2% you will make 50x30x20=30000$
With a conversion of 3% with a better copy you will make 50x30x30=45000$
That is 15 grand more with a better copy and 1000 visitors per day.
Hope my advice helped you man.
If you want I will show you my landing pages, I can give you some pointers and some material to read in order to become better at writing copy.
But personally if you want to make real money from landing pages I suggest you either outsource as much as you can or make a team.
1 webmaster, 1 copywriter(that can make the copy for the landing pages, articles, email templates, everything content related) and another guy on traffic generation.
Personally I create copy and everything content related and outsource webmaster jobs and traffic generation needs.
For a fair price I can make you a copy for your page.
I already do copy for a guy for 6 weeks now.
He launches a product per week so once every week he asks me for a copy.
Great JV for both of us.

None of us ever complained
