Hey guys

We just launched a website
www zumzzy com

Basically here the freelancers can list their services, upload their portfolio, contact details etc.
And a person looking for such services can directly contact him through the email or IM ids. And the most important point is its FREE both for client and contractor

I may be wrong but I think before going for paid advertisement and seo we must have 400-500 freelancer's details in our database.
I need some suggestion on initial promotion of website so we can at least get 400-500 sign ups from freelancers.
Any trick to fill up the database quickly :)

Thanks in advance :)

Right now we are focusing on web, mobile and seo related freelancers

just post in the related forums, I'm pretty sure there will be some people to join.

Berkeli I tried it on DP and i got few signups. I posted the thread in Review the Site section. Do you think its good section or I should focus on any other section

:D Applied black hat idea yesterday ......Posted a fake project on freelancer.com and replied back to each freelancers with this message
"Hello

I checked your proposal and I am very much interested. But right now we are making another eCommerce website that too of same niche. I hope you will give me better price for seo of 2 sites. I will try to update you asap.

Btw I found one web developer checking this site. I believe you must be interested in it.

You can list your services on this site free of cost and without monthly/yearly subscription.

Thanks "

I got 7 sign ups

IMO the site looks very messy and hard to navigate. Personally I like the oDesk-type of sleek design that just allows people to very easily navigate around.

I was thinking about developing a site like this, but haven't really got the coding skills. Great that you did it then! :) Can't really help you with the promoting, but I will definitely check it out. :)

Congratulations on taking action on your idea. Its awesome. But take into consideration about fraudsters who might abuse the direct client/freelancer negotiations outside your website. You might get into trouble about that. What do you think?

We want the clients to directly contact the contractors. Look the concept here is very different from freelancing sites. You can compare our site with merchantcircle.com or Kudzu.com. When you search for restaurant on merchantcircle.com. You get the list of restaurant near you with all the info like phone no, address, pics of restaurant etc. Its similar here, search the skill you are looking for check the portfolio, reviews of a contractor and if you are impressed by his/her profile you can contact him directly (out of the site).

I am already prepared to face the trouble :D
fraudsters and other troubles will come later ...the 1st trouble is making a name in freelancer niche. Its very very very competitive

In addition to website SEO, listings, advertising, etc.. Establish a pro Linkedin about the hub, socialize there, connect to prospects, reply to inquiries and collaborate. Business people, opportunity seekers, pros, clients and service providers flock there. I'm sure that Linkedin could be a great place to effectively promote your channel. Good luck.

Got pretty decent traffic and sign up from FB groups. And the lesson I learned is, on FB group the browsing is very fast so 300-400 word article describing your website/product is useless. I just used 3-4 catchy lines and url at the bottom :D
