Need some recommendations for a college degree

Well I spent all day researching all the suggestions here and other ones and I think I'm going to go with computer science as it seems the most practical and the more useful/interesting for what I'm wanting to do.

Marketing or something in computer science.

If you are gonna do distance learning in USA, make sure the school is "regionally accredited" or it is a rip off and courses will not transfer. It will say something like: "accredited by Southern Colleges and Universities". The rip off schools try to trick you by saying "National Accreditation". There is no such thing. Forget Full Sail University. They are not accredited which means your classes would not transfer or be accepted for obtaining a recognized certificate or license in your field. You would not be able to get a master's degree at another school.

Pick a degree that will give you a good high paying job and good quality of life. Computer Science is definitely one of them.

Bartman, I can totally understand you. The thing is though it's not like the old days where all you needed was a BA and you could get a good job. Not only is the economy in the toilet but everyone and their grandma has a BA now a days. In fact it's not even about having a masters or a phd it's just about picking the few degrees that can get you a good job (computer science, engineering, health related etc). For every other degree out there you can't find jobs and the pay sucks.

Before any degree could open doors for you now we only have a few handful degrees to chose from that can get you a job out of college and pay well.

I majored in english because writing is one of my specialties. However I wanted to drop out but I was forced by my parents. The only advice I can give to others is to pick a degree that will give you hope for your future. Life sucks knowing that there are no jobs and if you could get a job it won't be even for more than 40k.

Computer or software engineering. If your main concern is evergreen employability in a field relatable to IM, that's the ticket. Unless you are aiming to get a degree as a doctor/nurse, lawyer or engineer, college no longer assures a job.

It doesn't really matter, you'll find use for everything, even English Hons.(High Quality Article Writing). I personally am doing Computer Science Engineering, am in second year, and it hasn't really helped(yet). I also plan on doing MBA(Masters in Business Administration), so I can learn properly about running a business, since I've got a couple of unique concepts for online businesses, and also learn about the stock market and try my hand at forex.
For Internet Marketing, even a Psychology degree would be helpful, as would a English Hons.

Computer science/programming may be a good degree in a third world country like india. Not in western EU or USA.
In the US it sucks, just read community.dice.com and you'll see.

I'm studying business administration at the moment, after that I'm probably going to do masters degree in software developement - not for money, just for the paper (diploma) as my parents are making me do it. (Im already making some $$$ and I really don't even think about going to work for someone else)

If you want to make money, become a certified accountant. The question though was what's useful for IM.

In my opinion Biz administration is the best one for a businessman, then computer science teaches you a certain way of thinking which is very useful. But unless you are a very good friend with maths and physics, I wouldn't pick CS.

I second that. Well, I wouldn't say it sucks, but unless you want to work long, stressful hours, I don't recommend it. A close family member of mine is a computer engineer, works for one of the biggest tech companies in the USA, and works 16-18 hours a day, no joke.

Not saying it's a bad field, but based on the fact that you're here at BHW, I'm assuming your plan doesn't involve working like a slave hours at a time for someone else, right?
