Need some ideas

I have recently been getting into learning web app development (mainly with rails). I have completed a fair few mini-courses and built all the basic apps (social websites, event website) but now want to have a go at building one by my self from scratch. However, I want to make something that will actually get used and not something I will make and then publish. So anyone got any ideas of some basic apps they think might be of use to people? Again, I don't want to make something to advanced just something to help me develop my skills.

I'm assuming you've built a blog, twitter clone, project management app, etc. You've used Twitter Bootstrap, many rails gems, and the like. How about build a site with workers and requesters, much like a oDesk/Elance/Freelancer/vWorker/etc.. but for a specific niche. If this is something you're interested in building, and are familiar with Heroku, Git(Hub), etc - PM me. I have been tossing around an idea for a while, and would love to discuss building something cool.
