Need Some Help With Creating Site

So this is pretty much a newb post but i have a few question. Basically i have never made a business a website and my family wanted me to build them a website for their business. They have a shop that changes oil.

I originally thought i could use a wordpress theme but none of them look business like so i am wondering if there are any scripts out there with templates i can take a look at?

Doesn't need to be car based or anything i just cant find any designs i like.

Basically any advice you could give me would be great. Thanks guys.

I don't know how much would it help you. But yeah check the competitors sites and see what they are using. If they are using wordpress then look for template from source. Looking at similar sites gives you a good idea on navigation like what you can include and all that.

Also think from user point of view , if I'm the user to that site what would I expect. Don't forget to do cross browser testing. Personally for businesses I always preferred Joomla/Drupal over wordpress.
 
Thanks for the response. I checked at a couple competitors but none of them have websites. We live in a smaller part of the US so nobody actually has a website.

I will check into Joomla and Drupal. Have never used them before. Thank you
 
themeforest has some great themes for what your looking for. Some are WP and some are html. Personally, I wouldnt use WP theme for what your doing. But thats just me. good luck

BTW, its using Joomla.

I'm not sure whether you know this site builtwith dot com. Very Useful to analyze technical profile of a site. It gives u an idea. Good Luck.

No i have never heard of that site. Bruneel is a custom template i am pretty sure. I used to work for a competitor around here. Never would of known that was built with Joomla though

WordPress themes may not look like anything to match your families business but with a bit of customization you can exceed your expectations and it isn't hard. I have done several business sites with WordPress and made them look far from a blog.
 
I would suggest having a customized wordpress theme or any other type of site. That adds to the image of a business.
