hi
this guy has a site that has been around since 2008. has no backlinks. its been indexed but it does not come up in the first 10,000 results.

he paid me $150 to start and he said if he sees any results, he will continue working with me. if he dont, then he will fire me.

I have one month to show some kind of result.

I have 2 ideas:

pay someone on odesk to comment on a bunch of blogs (register since most blogs that are worth anything need registration)

pay someone to write 100 articles, put articles on web 2.0 sites like hubpages, squidoo, etc.
and then pay $55 to xrumerservice.org to xrumer the hell out of them.

or a third idea ??

remember I only have $150 to spend, I am willing to break even but I dont want to lose money.

I personally do following:

1. I bookmark my site to 20-30 biggest social sites.
2. after 2..3 days I use scrapebox, this alone will push my sites a little bit to the top.

I wait 1-2 weeks, if my site is not on the first page then I...
3. create profiles. (xr)
4. xrumer posts. (xr)
5. backlink evolution. (article posting on web 2.0)

you can do the social bookmarks for your self for free.. then I would buy scrapebox as you need it not only for your sites, you need to get bookmarks for your bookmark-sites too..

if your going to spam out xrumer with this domain you might need to insulated it a little bit with a feeder blog ala linkwheel status. or you could just take the money and run :D

I'm a little confused why you told this guy you could help him if you don't have the tools or a plan. What is your expertise? Have you actually got some sites to rank? If so, do what you did before.

wait, you're saying you said youd help him out and you dont know ANYTHING? not even bookmarking his site?

lol id fire you right away

where did you get the idea that i dont know ANYTHING?
I just dont know how to bookmark because I have never believed in bookmarking.
I recently took a site to page 2 for "something" followed by "services" with blog commenting, directory listing, and some profile links.
I am just wondering if this is the right way to go or if there is a more efficient way.

Spend all the money...

buy him xrumer blast,
profile links,
scrapebox links,
edu links and some high pr page do follow links.

All those product can be bought here at the forum.

I can sell you my secret method for $150.00

Here is a little taster

I use rune stones and throwing bones to analyse my competition. I then cast forth the dark lord of the underworld and have him smite all my competitors ranking above me. I swear with this method I took a site to page 1 for "something" followed by "enlargement"!

Put the $150 in an envelope and mail it to google along with a letter with the url and keywords you want to rank for.

But seriously, you need to gauge the competition and the keywords your client wants to rank for. How many search results does google return when you type in the keyword phrase? How many backlinks do the competitors have? What kind of backlinks do the competitors have (blog comments, paid links, articles)? How does the quality of onpage content compare to your client's website?

If the keywords aren't very competitive you can get away spending little money, if they are super competitive it could take a lot of money and time to get there.

Since your client wants to see short term results you will be better off targeting long tail keywords first.
IE if you client wants to rank for 'chicken nuggets' which shows 1.3mil results, try going for 'chicken nuggets sauce' 625,000 results or better yet 'chicken nuggets dipping sauce' 46,000. Ranking for these first will show your client that you're competent. (Chicken nuggets are just an example because I'm hungry)

As for building links your strategy is not bad but why not write the articles yourself and spin them? Also, instead of paying for an xrummer blast, which is a one time thing, you can buy scrapebox for the same price. Which will add a tool to your collection and you will be able to harvest an unlimited supply of links.

Cheers!
