Need some advice on where to start

Hello
I'm new to this whole IM business and want a way to make some $$$ from home and hopefully do full time some day.
I'm good with HTML/CSS & some basic Javascript + PHP.
I want a way to generate some income by generating some views & email submits on a domain I'll design.

From your knowledge and experience what is the best way to start, sprint, and finish with some money?

I have a niche I'm interested in exploring in and can generate a lot of views from that I think. I just want to know the most efficient way to get a steady stream of income.

Creating sites is easy. What you need to learn is two things:

1. How to get traffic
2. How to convert traffic

Since you know the basics of building a site start looking at offers and learn what other people are doing. I'd suggest staying away from the make money online niche. Look for other niches that are either popular and have a lot of buzz (those are good for social marketing) or evergreen niches that never get old (meaning ppl always search for it - SEO).

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. You're going to have many failures and a few wins. Learn from them all and scale up what's worked for you.

I've probably created 100+ sites and have had maybe 10-15 real winners and some more that just did ok. And sometimes those winners get hit and you lose them like with a Google penalty.

Figure out which methods of promotion work best for you Social Media or SEO or Advertising. Those are the primary methods of marketing online.

Once you have that figured out than you need to figure out converting it. Could be anything from building an email list to adsense clicks.

Test, test, test.

You'll find what works for you eventually.

A SECRET I've LEARNED: My friend, you need education as soon as possible. Real education. You should take a class if possible, but it should be preferably in programming for the web, or maybe application development, but you need to go ahead and start learning that asap because everyday the people who actually create the Internet and know how to make the various and unending wonderments where we find ourselves... well, they're continually innovating and pushing forward and changing, so as soon as you get caught up, the sooner you can innovate too.

Some advice: whenever you're about to make a purchase, from the domain name all the way screeching down to buying advertising, whenever you put your hand on your wallet, checkbook or credit card, get in the habit of stopping for 30 seconds and asking out loud "What exactly am I getting for this? Why am I buying this; Is this worth it?" I say get in the habit because there are some insidious folk who will promise you a free trip to the moon and then give you a cardboard box with the word "ROCKET!" painted on the side to get you there.

And suggestion for site building: just remember to make your site engaging. Make sure there is something special about it, so it's not just the same old crap. The Internet is a sea that's awfully polluted, but what rises to the top of that mess and shines through tend to all be user-focused and user-friendly. Or... at the very least, they have exceptional content.

Technical aspects do not count. Only marketing and conversion are important, so concentrate your thinking on these.


The affiliate model is usually considered the easiest for a beginner. Search for affiliatenaire. It's one of the best method available.




Some common mistakes


- Think you have a winner.
It may happen once in a while (google, facebook...) but it's very rare. Better concentrate on proven winners (weight loss, dating, geek, amazon affiliate...). They stink, but they work.


- fear competition
All making money things are crowded or overcrowded. Be prepared to face competition. Usually, people survive by being social. Not blackhat social media manipulation, but sincere participation in crowded areas until you get people's attention. barkers tends to succeed. not introverts




- wait for perfection
The web is an universe of mediocrity. And you have so many chances to fail. Better try several things but one at a time. If you have a real winner, you will have plenty of time to improve it.




- Try too many things
If you try everything, you have high chances to fail. Better try one method and concentrate on it for one week to one month. For the majority of people, money comes from little streams (eg little sites that make 100-200$ per month). And even experienced people have a certain percentage of failure.




- Beware of blackhat
Most money making methods rely on SEO even if they don't say it. And G controls perhaps 60% of the traffic and watches all your moves.


Chances of being slapped by G are extremely high for a beginner. So, have firewalls (multiple accounts, multiple projects, multiple methods...) and keep many things open.

I plan on trying to get site up to get some email submits with an incentive for people to get something free.. (Maybe a giveaway or some useful info regarding the niche.)

I agree with you on the whole "money making online niche". It seems like BHW is just filled with people trying to get people into their pyramid scheme or something really similar. I'm no expert, but from what I've seen its modern day scamming with some sugar on the outside.

I plan on trying to form a structured attack on social media marketing with some genuine content that has to do with getting people to my site, but I'm really big on doing it in a non-spamming way... Giving people something genuine in the things I create so they can gain some form of 'trust'.

Honestly couldn't agree with you more about being on the cutting edge in innovation. BUT creativity can come from someone without a formal education, as easily (even more some will argue), as someone with years of schooling.

I do understand however that the more tools you have in your belt, the better house you can build. I'm always trying to learn something new in programming or anything I see can turn into money one day one way or another. My problem is I get too easily distracted and am limited on time so I end up using my free time unwisely or just lose interest all together.

Any pointers on what you think the cutting edge of the web is right now or moving to?
