Need SEO Audit: Great Site, Great Content, Google Hates It

I need someone to help tell me what's going on with my site. It's a lifestyle/news publication with a specific niche (both regional and topical) with a mix of short and long form, human written content. It regularly racks up 1k+ views/day from social media and reddit and humans actually like reading and sharing the content.

However, Google HATES it. Even searching full article names often doesn't surface the same page that earned like 200k impressions on Reddit.

There are no manual actions on GSC. I have a suspicion the backlink profile is the reason behind this.
