I've been watching videos of how to use wordpress and don't get me wrong I have learned a bit.

I even set up a little blog up just to test the water... I set the blog up but got discouraged and left it alone.

However, I need to learn it or at least know how hard is it to become a "Freelancer" with it. My cousin is making bank with riding around the city dropping off flyers and offering his services to build apps to local businesses. He knows web designing and wordpress... but he sat and learned mobile app development in like 3 days and he's been making money ever since. Yesterday, we road through the bad snow storm passing out flyers and offering his services... 3 businesses called him for some apps and some are even in need of a website, that he's going to build but he said if I wanted the gig I can have it... but I am so scared to take upon the jobs when I know that they might need some graphics work done and I can't do it... what if they want flash? I can't do that either. However, I can build basic websites and is not dumb to it.

This is something I wish I had the motivation to do because I need the money... I am just afraid of taking jobs and being stuck when asked to do something special... (previous experience).

Is it hard to learn wordpress when planning to freelance?

It's not hard to learn WordPress but it does take some time. Start now and in a few weeks you'll be a pro and be able to pick up things like mobile app development using WordPress in just a couple of days like your friend. Don't let fear stop you.

    Hi OP,

Before borrowing some inspirations, may I first ask "How badly do you want to be part of this profitable segment". Like you, I was once in your shoes but ignited some sparks for hot pursues.

Firstly, BHW Family will always and be always here for you.
Secondly, I reckon you to search for 1hr++ Youtube videos on Wordpress tutorials, at least 2-3 of them (total 6hours +/-) and perhaps you are in your way to Mount Everest for gold digging. By the way, act in those videos, don't merely watch and dismiss reality.
Thirdly, what you reap is what you sow, pardon for such bold statement but it is hard truth.
Fourth, don't indulge in BST Threads or Buy 'Seemingly Profitable' Ideas, no one will teach/spoonfeed you on profitable money making strategies.
Lastly, it depends on your effort and intelligence. Your envy towards your cousin is nothing compared to your dying wish to profit bucks. Once you get the hang of it, monkeys are awaiting for you and European Cars (Bentley GT Coupe, Mercedez Benz E250 Cabriolet/Coupe/Convertible) is at your disposal. How about a Ferrari F430 or a Lamborghini Gallardo?

Quote: Never give up! Be the change you want to see in you right now!Mind you, I've lost closed to 7K online since my initial journey. However, I'm still in this LINE... ROFL stupiak Commoner right? Heck! You bet! I'm on stubborn fool that won't bug till success is made, even 1$ per day :D

    Warmest Regards,Commoner

Without going into wordpress (since I know nothing about it), you just need to put yourself out there and accept the possibility that you might fail. Failing can be the greatest thing that can happen to you since it puts you in a position to understand what needs to be done to succeed. Whether that is researching and studying more, giving away some free work to gain experience or whatever. You need to take that first step forward and see what happens.

Although I don't have wordpress experience, you asked for some motivation so here are a couple threads I made that hopefully can inspire you and your future projects, whatever they may be. Best of luck :)

I own a web marketing agency that does web design, SEO, PPC, etc.. I'm not a programmer in any way and I've learned everything by myself on the web so I know for sure that it's possible!

Wordpress is quite easy to learn and there are SO MANY resources online to get started that it's impossible not to find the answer you're looking for.

Here are the best tips I can give you.

    1. If a client wants a Website. Go to Themeforest.net and search for a theme that you think is appropriate for the company. Just take the pictures and show it to the client to see if that's what they want. If it is, buy the theme and you'll have the instructions to set it up and you'll have access to their support system in case you need help. The themes in Themeforest are very professional and I'm sure you can find something for every client.

    2. If a client wants something you can't do (such as flash or graphic design). You just need to outsource it. Either come here to find somebody else to do it for you and take a commission out of it (for example, keep 20% of what the client pays you) or just outsource it on a platform such as oDesk and Freelancer. I have a team of more than 30 people on oDesk doing all kinds of stuff from graphic design, to programming, content writers, editors, general VAs. Trust me it's easy to find quality people to do work for very cheap.

    3. If a client asks you a question that you don't know the answer, don't BS him, that will kill your reputation. Just tell them that you need to check with your programmer and that you'll get back to him. He doesn't need to know that you'll do everything yourself.

    4. Finally, the best advice I can give you is: "Just do it!" Even if you don't make as much profit as you will eventually, you'll still make good money. I outsource 90% of my web designs and on a 5,000$ contract, I usually get 3,000$ profit. So even if you start with a lower margin, it's still very good. You should use the mentality of "Get the contract and figure it out later"!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Best of luck and I hope you'll do it.

Wordpress is not hard, get a cheap domain, install wordpress and practice.

Remember that it is not really a win/lose thing here and you are really only competing with yourself. Read all you can here and start trying some things out. This might help increase your confidence a little. You're probably a very capable person and all you need is a little push.
