Hello,
I own a local company that does not have a storefront... I sell a product that can be bought at hardware stores like lowes/home depot.... (lets just say a ladder) ….

I mainly sell my product via craigslist / offerup / local sites. the keywords people are searching for on sites like craigslist are "ladder" and my results come up so I am fairly successful at getting sales through these sites....

How do I target this "product name" on a local level through google? Or even find out what people are searching for on google that would make them land on my site and call me to purchase?

First question, do you have a GoogleAds? This "app" will show you all metrics about you advertisement in Google browser-from which device people find you, how many men and women get on your site etc. If you download it, you can see a resuluts of organic keywords in few weeks - that mean through which keyword people land to your page. If you never hear about that I offer you to make a certificate from Google about GoogleAds, where you will follow step by step guide how to work with that. But, If you want to tend on specific public, you should download Google Analytics. It is not hard to learn. Personally me, I have 2 certifications from Google Analytics( GA in next). This guides will learn you how to use it, which metrics you should follow and pay attention. It will show you from which country people get on your site, gender etc.

Thanks for the fast response!

I am kinda tooling through the google ads. The problem I have right now is that my website currently is of no use, I generate most of my sales from craigslist and local for sale sites. so when people type "XXXX product" in craigslist they find my product.....

For instance, if I type "XXXX product" on google. the only 3 sites that come up, with the phone number and address/on map *business listings* are lowes/homedepot

how can I make it so when someone In my area types "XXXX product" my site comes up on googles list of stores?

For local SEO you need a strong GMB and make sure your profile is verified and is 100% complete with regular posts you have Google Maps and Reviews also link to any social media/ reviews you have
Any post or reviews make sure they have you KW, location and where possible consistent address, phone number, etc
also, target Longtail KW Like -best ladders in town/city you are based - ladders in Town/ City - find you local ladders, etc
you get the idea make sure it is locally based and mentions where you are
Hope that makes sense and helps!

That's nice that you've great presence and success on given channels, if you want to get succeed on Google then you've to create your Google Local Business Page, which doesn't require any website, even you can create free site from there, what required is a physical address which you can provide of your home as well if you're providing genuine products.

If you need any further help you can PM me anytime.
