So we are weeks away from launching our product and we are expecting to receive huge amount of traffic since this will be a facebook app product. Maybe at least 5k-10k impressions per day minimum.
What do you think is the best package we get. Do you think we need to get a VPS for this? Also please suggest which is the best hosting provider for this project. We are currently hosted on bluehost but unfortunately their system cannot handle hackers. Our site got hacked thrice already and their suggestion is we moved to a higher package with higher price of course which is not acceptable..

    Thanks in advanced!

I would recommend Liquidweb for your project, their support is just fantastic.

VPS for sure. I use one Linode VPS for all of my websites and it works pretty well.

mediatemple is my bet -- i have thrown tons of traffic at them...and it's grid-based hosting, so if you have a spike, it'll just borrow resources from the grid to handle the request, instead of blocking i/o which is what most shared hosting providers do. The basic $20 plan should be good for what you're expecting. You can always upgrade. I find VPS to be cost prohibitive -- you get very little resources for the money.

5000 - 10000 is a large variance. With a 3 minute average, you're looking at anywhere between 14 and 30 concurrent users on your site.

On the cheap end, you can look at shared hosts using litespeed.
Medium cost is either a VPS with litespeed / nginx + apache / apache + varnish OR cloud hosting
High cost is dedicated OR cloud hosting
Very high cost is dedicated with loading balancing OR cloud hosting.

Personally I'd just optimize the code as much as possible. You can scale bad code, it just hits the cap much faster.

Definitely not a shared hosting, You should go for affordable VPS hosting in the beginning and scale it up depending on the traffic in the future.

    I second this suggestion.

I did quite a bit of research for a resource-heavy site of ours and MediaTemple seemed the best by far.
Only switched over a month ago so can't give you guys a full review but so far (touch wood!) everything's been great.
And it's definitely a better solution than a VPS as it's instantly scalable, meaning that should you need more resources at any given time you can easily upgrade to a much higher package without having any downtime.

I take it from the suggestions people are firing your way you want a US based host?
In that case, take a look at Urpad, net - extremely professional support (only needed them once!), stable servers and a decent network.

Their prices are brilliant - I currently have a 1Gb RAM VPS from them for just under $6 a month (special offer on LEB).
Okay, my box is in Europe (Luxembourg) but my bet is their US service is just as good!

As you want to get huge number of visitor your hosting should have high bandwidth so that visitors do not feel bored when they visit your site. So try to get some hosting that provide high bandwidth.
