Hey guys, I been lurking around for a while now one this site as well as many others like warriorforum, problogger, seomoz, and google. I'm new to this whole website building/seo and I have learned a lot, but I also learned that there is so much useless information out there because its outdated and the info will hurt me more than it will help me.
so how do I get my page ranked higher? so far I have Wordpress and use all in one seo, I have a sitemap and image sitemap, and some other stuff i cant think of off the top of my head. For off site I have signed up for squidoo, reddit, redgage, digg, stumbleupon, and other sites that have links that i can put in my profile, but google doesnt count that as a link. I guess its a no follow link? the sites i read on seo said that I could use those sites to get backlinks.
I even wrote an article for ezinearticles and i still didnt get that link counted. I also registered my site with google, bing/yahoo, alexa and commented on other bloggers with similar interests (which doesn't show up as links either on google or bing webmaster tools.)
so am i on the right track? is there an easy method to creating back links? what else can i do to help bring traffic to my site? I'm just getting a little depressed because there is so much to learn and when I learn it, I later find out that it doesnt matter anymore like meta tags for the most part. so many articles write about having meta tags blah blah blah, but google doesnt use meta tags any more. any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.
