I uploaded a new theme to my wordpress and for some reason on the main page my images are not showing up. The images show up on the post, but not on my main page featured post thumbnails.

    Any ideas?

I suspect it's related to your new theme's CSS, compare it with other free themes, just to make sure.

I have tried to use both "tribune" and "grungezine" and a couple preloaded themes they all did the same. It must be something I'm doing. When I'm posting I click upload pic-then I allign the pic at the top left. Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

In some themes you have to specify the image file in a field below the post in the edit post menu, before the "featured image" will show.

Woo Themes for example have this.

By default, WordPress strips most HTML tags from excerpts, except <p>. Many themes have a way to configure that setting.

Without knowing the specific theme, I can only give a general suggestion.
go to Admin, then open the Appearance tab, If there is a Theme Options click on it. Look for a settings tab for Post & Pages, and a selection to configure excerpts. See if you can find a setting for "Don't strip these tags" and add the <img> tag to the box.

Depending on the theme your using, these settings may be arranged differently, but wherever it is thats the setting you want to find.

Tell us the theme you're using and it might be easier to give you some help.

edit- If the theme you're using doesn't have this setting then you may need to create it yourself. Here are instructions for adding a new function to your theme that will allow you to configure the excerpts.
    Code:
