    Hey Folks...

I've trawled a few sites and watched a few vids, but im no nearer what im trying to achieve.

Im using wordpress theme to create a site which will have all the shops, businesses, restaurants etc within a certain region.

There are 3 regions, lets call them north south and east. Within these regions, are going to be categories ie shopping, business, restaurants etc, and within these will be the lists of individual shops, businesses and restaurants etc.

Im unsure how to put this together though. Do i have 3 pages 1 for each region ie north, south and east. Then within each of those pages do i have the categories listed ie shopping, business, restaurants....then when you click on those you are taken to a post which has the individual shop, restaurant or business.

What would be the best way to do this? i have all the elegant themes.

    Appreciate any help at all

    j

Wouldn't it be better to use a wordpress directory theme such as this ? https://wordpress.org/themes/directory/

On the other what I think that you want to make is 3 categories.

    Category 1 - Shopping
    Category 2 - Restaurants
    Category 3 - Business

Then within those categories you'll place the posts that represent each category and you're ready!

    Thanks....

The directory themes aren't up to much tbh...

Ref the 3 category idea, if i did it like that, how does the user pick the category relevant to their region? Thats why i had the though of 3 pages, then categories within, then individual within that??

You can create the pages but it's not necessary to get category archives - wordpress will create these on its own. There's a couple of ways to do it simply:

Easiest way is this: Create some test posts in each of your categories by using the category tick boxes in the post editor. Then, when you go to appearances>menus you'll be able to create a custom menu and wordpress will let you specify which location you want to display the menu in (this will be different depending on the theme you use). If you look at the left hand side, you'll see a list of pages you can add into the menu, but you should also be able to see a list of categories with checkboxes. Add the categories to your menu and wordpress will display the category archives using your theme's archive template.

Otherwise, you can create pages for each of the categories. You can get plugins that will let you display category post archives within a page or you can create a custom template with a wordpress loop query/ wp_query. If you're getting started with php, there's lots of plugins that can display categories on pages in the repository.
