Need help with https issue on my blog

When I registered this website 3 years ago, I submitted it as http to all of the directories, and google and whatnot, but about a year ago I had an https installed. I use WordPress btw. I bought it from GoDaddy and HostGator installed it. 2 issues I may be having with this.

1. Does this hurt my rankings, or if backlinks direct to http, is that http backlink invalid, because it is not https?

2. All IE users get a message popup telling them every thing on my website is not secure, due to the https install. How can I get rid of this? I use a mac, and was completely unaware of this issue until recently. I dont want people just leaving when they see that message.

2. If you want the users to not having the "unsecure" message you need to get a SSL certificate. You can get this from $9 and upwards, depending it you want wildcard or not. Google SSL Certificate. Rapid SSL in one of the cheapest providers, on the other end you have verisign that offer expensive ceritificates.


Or you could disable https, if you dont have any use for it.

Are you doing secure online transaction? Why did you install https certificates?

Well I was going to have online transactions, but I decided to stick with Affiliate marketing. I do have an SSL through GoDaddy. I figured since I was already paying for it, i could keep it on there. HostGator installed it, they told me i wasnt allowed. Does having the https make that much of a difference with the trust of customers. I'm not selling anything though. I suppose I could just remove it. One day I might decide to get an https because of online transactions, how would I prevent this issue?

If the nature of your work is secure, you need to check if your site opens with both http and with https. If that is the case then you need to redirect all of your traffic to the https one using a simple 301 redirect.
