I am doing speed optimization for a site and need to convert 1700 images that are in jpg format to webp. Can you please suggest good online tool to convert in batch. Any help highly appreciated.

If you are using wordpress you can use a plugin. If you are not you can use a 3rd party service or even better convert it via your server. If you do not have a server then you should contact your web hosting company to do that for you.

Usually these plugins are called compressors or convertors. I use "WebP Converter for Media" and does a pretty good job!
