Hello, I'm new to the BHW and the SEO community. I have a new jewelry website that I would like to promote. What are some current methods I could use to improve traffic? I have done some reading on the site but most methods I have come across are a bit outdated. Any help, little to big, would be helping me out a bunch. Right now, all I have had is word of mouth. I would like to learn as much as possible and get the most out of this community, while also giving back. So if anyone has any tips for me, I would like to hear them. Thank you!

Forgot to mention that it's an ecommerce site. I have purchased interspire's shopping cart and email marketer for my site.

adwords is one way you can get traffic and it is a whitehat method. Just be careful and only bid on low paying keywords and specify the geographic area you are in for displays.

Another whitehat method is to buy banner space on a website that servers primarily your area.

Offline ideas work too - classified ads. Online you have craigslist, kijiji for ads.

If your domain has the city name in it search here for ukescuba and check out his signature, some swear this works well (I'll be finding out soon hopefully)

Thanks for the advice guys. I apologize for not writing sooner, but I was busy reading up on some of the things mentioned. I have about $75 worth of credit for adwords. I don't know how much that will help as I have never used it. I am also in the process of looking for someone to post on craigslist for me.

Do you guys have any recommended sites or members that can help me get on my way/make it a smoother process? I do not mind paying for services or software but I also cannot go too overboard as I have not been making anything off this business (internet side) just yet.

I was also thinking of using email marketer to send mass emails to a list I got from an email sent from the competition. They didn't hide their users email addresses. Should be ok right? Ok for a start?

Well, getting off in the right direction is the most important thing in blackhatting. Regarding that list, if it's a targeted email list from a direct competitor, it's gotta be worth a shot. It may not get you anything, but it can't be a total loss either. How big is the list? Shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to help you get going.

need a little skills in building sites for this one.. ;)

I like to build community sites for the area -

    Example:

Buy a key word rich domain for the area and put up a community - classifieds - biz directory - link exchamge - etc..

Get the word out on the community site - local biz's etc..

    automate the sign-up posting etc..

You own the site so fly your banner/ad at the top of every page and bottom of every email response..

You'll find that sometimes the community site will prove more worth than the site you where promoting. "ad revenue, depends on the area."

If you don't posses the skills, try a CMS like Joomla..

    Just a thought.. ;)

Thanks guys for all the help so far. Got busy studying for some MCITP exams and was not able to reply back. I will try the methods listed and post back. After that maybe the miss and I can actually start making some money with other methods. I really appreciate the extra effort that was put in trying to help out. I love this place! :)
