Hopefully someone here can help me.

I got tired of not haveing enough backlinks (even though I was #1 in G) so I submitted my site to 1000 directories with Digixmas service.

Now I went from only 80 backlinks to over 800 in 2 weeks.

Now I'm wondering if that was too fast and Google will sandbox me. Is there anything I can do to prevent that??

thanks in advance for any advice,

Dude... why would you even waste your time trying if you are #1 on Google? Isn't getting to #1 kind of the point.

I think you are probably going to get sand boxed.

but from what I have read on this forum that will only put you out of commission for a couple weeks.

Next time find a service that will space out the back links slowly enough so you won't have issues.

Keep building links to offset the sudden appearance and slowly bring down the velocity every week until you want to stop building. The irony of getting all these links suddenly is you need to get more now to keep it steady.. in for penny in for a pound I guess :)

800 is not a big number, it probably wont affect you.

Thanks for the advice her. The reason I started building links was because some competition was coming up and threatening my position.

One question though - the site is over 3 years old and has been getting about 75 hits per day before all of this happened.

Over the course of 3 years I've had over 82K visitors -so I'm wondering if a sudden increase of 800 backlinks will be that big of a deal anyway.

What do you think?

Seriously, listen to MisterGemini....keep building backlinks for a little while, taper it off over time...it's things like spikes in activity, anomalous behaviour, and so forth that will trip the triggers. The worst possible thing you could do is get gun-shy now.

thanks for the great advice here. I will continue to backlink for a while to ward off the appearence of it being an unusual spike.

One last question - do I need to increase site activity (visits) to match the increase in backlinks? I can do this with an email to my list or something if that will also give the appearence of being more natural growth.

Is this needed too?

Keep us posted on how you do. I be interested in knowing if in fact there were any actually repercussions to your recent backlink campaign. Good luck!

Links don't always equal traffic. I don't see any need for that unless you want to boost your alexa ranks or something. It's not going to have any impact in google otherwise.

MisterGemini - what would you do right now if you were in my shoes in terms of numbers and duration. A couple hundred more backlinks per week for a few weeks? What would you suggest?

First, I would never be in your shoes and do what you did. :)

Second, seeing your situation.. try doing incremental links reduced by 20% per week. By per week I mean whatever you manage to build out on average through the week. So build out 600 this week, 400 next, 200 next, 100 next until you you are down to a regular level you can maintain, or just stop all together. Though, if what you had was in my hands, I would be feeding the site a regular diet of roughly 50 links a day if you can do that.

Keep in mind just because you build a link doesn't mean Google immediately finds it. Don't ping links all at once, but rather build other links to the properties that contain your links.. then ping those perhaps depending on their worth to you. :)

I don't know your site, how you operate, or your resources, but this pretty much sums up what I would be doing now... in a situation I will never be in. :)

Well I share the same opinion as masterGemini.
You should build a lower number each week untill you stop. I reccomend taking atleast 2 weeks untill you stop link building and you should try to mix the links so you link to your site with different anchor text so not all of your links are for just 3 keywords.
In my expiriance its better to target synonym keywords like:
instead of safe backlinking link a little with secure backlinking.
I think you get the point

Alright so I'm still holding steady as of today. Links up to over 1100 now.

I'm feeding the site about 50 lnks a day with SENuke. That's all I can seem to get with the video module, bookmarking module, or article module.

To get a few hundred links should I switch to something like Scrapebox? I'm trying to keep the site at least "grey hat" as possible, will using Scrapebox have any negative repercussions?

sorry the above post was a little unclear - I was wanting to keep the site as "clean" as possible and not subject to some black hat penalty or whatever.

Can I use Scrapebox for this? It seems better for mass links unless I'm mistaken.

yeah sb will give u a ton of backlinks fast...but if those links ur getting thru senuke are articles on 2.0 sites or whatever...i would blast the shit outta those and let the juice trickle down to ur site...that should be enough to keep G off ur back for a minute
