Hi,

So my website had a few hundred product pages in the past.
Now I turned the website in to an business website, it now has around 10 pages.

I installed an wordpress plugin that redirects all 404 pages to the homepage.

Now all of the old links are still indexed in Google and I think it is hurting my rankings.
I build many quality backlinks, on page seo is 100%, load time is 0,8 seconds with everything green in Gmetrix, no penaly. But for some reason my website is not raking on any keyword (low comepetion), it has been like this for weeks.
Search console is all setup without errors.

Does this have something to do with the 404 redirected pages? Should I manually ask google to remove every single link from the index, or is there anyway to bulk this?

Thanks!

Use the Google Disavow tool to remove your 404 pages. It can help you batter.

404 redirection doesn't hurt SEO of a website but it is possible that the pages you have removed were the main reason of your Google ranking. You should have kept those pages or have found and alternate method. You might have lost a lost of authority and internal link due to that. Have you applied 301 redirection?

I recommend doing 410 instead of 404. If your site is on wordpress there are plugins available for status code 410.
Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I did that, all 404 pages are being redirected to the homepage now.
so domain.com/awdhbaiwdbaiuwbdiauwbd will also be redirected, no matter what you fill in.

But still notting is happening for weeks now

give up on that keyword you might be waisting your time .. change to something which is less competitive compared to the current project

Mate you just need to build backlinks now, and wait till it ranks, I have one website who does the same thing as you and my competitor have LQ website.

If you have no idea for what you are talking about, you better say nothing. Suggesting to add your own pages to Google disavow tool is 1. useless and 2. Stupid. The purpose of this tool is to disavow INCOMING links. How the fuck you come with the idea to add your own pages there is beyong me. If I where you, I would read a thing or two about SEO before advising others.

OP - You had ranking product pages, then you removed them. Ranking doesnt just transfer to another completely unrelated pages... If you are sure that your content is good, and everything is fine from technical point - you just need links, thats it. Also using plugins to 301 your 404 pages is just bad. Do it manually via htaccess.

Will try using htaccess, thanks

You still in the sandbox
I have had over 20 websites in my lifetime.
Everytime i submit the sitemap to google search console im ranking the next day (page 1-10).
there is not reason for an aged website with quality content, backlinks etc... to not rank for the most easiest keywords, not even page 10.

Dont think it has anything to do with sandbox
