Need help ranking a news website

Hi guys!

This is my first thread on BHW, although I've been a member for over 2 years, and i wish i could have contributed something in this thread to give back, unfortunately that day has not came yet as I'm still learning.

I need your help on a new project that I'm going to take soon, client is a famous newspaper in my country, 6 months ago they used to get around 150-200k visits/day, but now they are down to around 100k/day, and they want to improve that.

The website is about 8 years old, and they have around 3k referring domains and 1Mil external backlinks according to majestic. Which seems strange as all the competitors have lesser numbers of links, and get more traffic.

Also the website has a global alexa ranking of 25xx , and a local rank 6x , they used to be in the twenties but it went up with the visits going down, and they want to get back there.

Now I'm a bit confused on what should be done, specially with a site this big, I'm not sure if it's seo that i should be pursuing, or other forms of online marketing

Would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations for:

- Raising the traffic rates up to 150-200k visits
- Raising the Alexa local ranking to somewhere in the twenties

Hi, Start building links by yourself manually, Initially my advice is not to spent much on seoservices. So better option is try to build links by yourself.

Build Manual WEB 2.0, Article Submission, Manual Bookmarks.

For quick traffic you need to try paid advertising. This will bring you instant traffic.

I've already reached that conclusion , any suggestions on where to spend it?

They already have a facebook page with 297k fans, and 15k are "Talking about this", they get between 10-20k visits per day from fb, how do you think that could be improved?

Thought about that, but the problem is I'll need the traffic to come from Egypt, because that's the country that I'm looking to rank the website for on Alexa.

Also the website is heavily using adsense to generate income, and I've heard bad things about the kind of traffic that comes from websites like Adfly, which could lead in some cases to terminating the Adsense account.
