I was facing the same problem like you, I try use cache system like hyper cache, db cache reloaded, but still I got too many visitor for shared hosting hostgator, more than 50k a day, then I move to vps, learning how to install web server, learn to use lighttpd to replace apache, then I move to dedicated.

can you make it a larger memory size or is that the optimum for wp? running it on a VPS

caching plugins like W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache will help a lot,
I am assuming your niche is movie or tv or warez considering the traffic, I run the same and have faced problems with manay server,
but with hostgator i was always fine ,
consider moving our with a different hosting.

This seems to be holding my traffic just fine for now. I imagine you can make it a higher number, this was a measure to stop the out of memory errors he was having. I am not as educated on the different server settings and such. I was only quoting what the linux admins at hostgator and my server team was saying needed to be done.

I try to keep a record of all my support tickets to use as reference to future issues should I add another server or open another account.
