I think your main issue is lack of focus. IM and SEO take quite some time to work now - so it's important to view it as something that will pay off in the longer term.
I would start a website in a niche that you already love (hobbies are a great first step) and then take it from there. Don't expect huge cheques for the first year though - you'll just get fedup and move onto the next shiny object.

I would agree. Writing articles and reviews about something you have no interest in isn't easy. It gets more difficult when you aren't seeing fast results also. You have to be patient with income from a blog or website and it's easier to be patient when you're writing about something you have an interest in. Getting traffic to your site organically takes time but it will be worth it if you stick with it.
